Wedding rings

Please talk to me about wedding rings....

I have an 18ct white gold engagement ring and I'm struggling to find a wedding ring. I have really small hands too. I've recently seen one with 10 small diamonds in pairs around it which I like but I've been advised against getting a wedding ring with diamonds in because it won't last as long. I'm stuck. x

Well, I got one with diamonds in. What do you mean by not last as long? Like the diamonds will fall out?

Do you mean the metal will rub more quickly because it will be thinner around the diamonds? My wedding ring is 18ct white gold and diamond, but it won't fit with my engagement ring, so I'll switch my engagement ring to my right hand during and after the wedding. Maybe you could do that, if you're worried about the two rings rubbing?

In what way would it not last as long? According to who? I've a white gold engagement ring with a plain band and single sapphire and felt anothe rplain band would look a bit dull, so have seen an eternity ring with a row of diamonds that cross sides with a plain bit in the middle. Not sure I've explained that well lol. OH is already concerned as it's not a 'proper' wedding band and it's not expensive enough so won't last [:/].

I think the only way to see whta you like is go and try a few on that you like and see what looks best

Where are you ladies buying your rings if you're afraid that metals and jewels have expiration dates or won't last?

    Genuine Q.

I was worried about the diamonds falling out.

The one I've seen is in the local jewellers and is 18ct white gold £700 at the moment as it's in the sale.

I was told that wedding bands should be plain because they need to last years and years and you don't want the diamonds dropping out. If you want more diamonds you should get an eternity ring. I don't get thing eternity ring thing either, surely my wedding ring shows forever love!?

Traditionally, you would be bought an eternity ring on the birth of your first child. But that's not so much a thing these days.

I say get what you like. Yes diamonds can fall out, but they can be replaced if needs be.

If the diamond is properly set, it shouldn't fall out. 18k gold is a hard metal and it is difficult to accidentally bend.

Wedding bands do not need to be plain. All quality metal rings (including those fitted with jewels) should last a lifetime.

Go with what you want to wear.

Anne, have a look at the Alba Rose website. You can choose your style, metal, weight (ie get something more dainty if your hands are tiny) and if you want something shaped to go next to your ER they can do that too.
