wedding rings - go on give us a flash

Katscamel, 17 March, 2012 at 16:11 Posted on Planning 0 8

Ok so we're finally thinking about getting our wedding rings which is a tiny bit of a problem. Firstly we're on a limited budget - now I know others have talked about 'upgrading' at a later date but somehow that just won't feel right. Also, anything like that costs a fortune over here and though getting them in the UK could be an option all the ones I have seen and liked have been way too expensive - ok I'll admit it I DO have very expensive taste when it comes to jewellery and am a bit of a jewellery snob.

So the plan.........to get in touch with a friends jewellers in Dubai and see what he can come up with. Would love to see your rings to help me decide whether to go for something 'classic' (the sensible thing to do as tastes change) or something a bit different. Also thinking of white gold - or maybe 2 tone...... Let the flashes commence ?

    ANY excuse!!

    Mine:

engraved platinum except the diamonds will be tiny carved flowers instead. £760

    His:
except the gold inlay will be silver. In Titanium £165 but haggled down to £120 since we got it from the same place we got mine from.

Where is this from?? I love it!

I was just considering a 3mm d-shaped platinum ring for me at about £450, and a 5mm palladium ring for OH for about £250? I put the ring budget at £1200, so there's room to maneuver, but a couple other things have come out over budget so far, so unless its for something special....

    Hi Venart Smiley smile

That exact ring (with the square edges and diamonds) is £2400 from www.dennisandlavery.com. Mine is being based on that, but the design changed to have tiny flowers where the diamonds are, and using a heavyweight court ring as a base rather than the square edges. It's being done by GH Moore in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, but apparently most manufacturing jewellers can engrave scrolls, flowers, vines, etc onto plain rings. I had the idea because my Mum's ring is gold with orange blossom engraved into it and looks stunning 44yrs on! Engraved rings aren't really fashionable now, but I like the vintage feel, and as I said, jewellers WILL do it.

Actually, Katscamel - what sort of thing do you like that you think will be too much? Just thought, because we don't live tooo far from the Jewellery Quarter and we have to go back sometime to collect our rings, so if you have some photos or links to rings you like, I can see if I can get quotes for you? My ring is less than 1/3 the cost of the one I saw online and liked, because it's being made and sold in the JQ. If you know your ring size, it should be easy to arrange if your Dubai friend can't help Smiley smile
