Wedding rings query...

MrsR, 18 February, 2010 at 17:32 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi,

I've basically just got engaged and feel very overwhelmed with all the planning to do for my wedding! Don't get me wrong I'm overjoyed and so happy, just slightly over faced with all these lists etc!

Anyway, my real question was, why do you need to arrange wedding bands so early on? It appears as one of the top things to do on the wedding planner list!

Any other tips for wedding planning are welcome too!

Thanks X

Congrats MrsR and welcome to Hitched. ?

I don't think there's any need to get them done early really, although I suppose it's useful to get it out of the way.

We ordered our's (mine had to be shaped around my engagement ring) on 31/12 and they were ready by mid-Jan

Welcome, I would imagine unless you are working with a designer to have one made from scratch, it shouldn't need to be the first thing you get, venue for me, then photographer would be way up there.

I am getting married in May and have just ordered ours and they said they will take 3 weeks. HTH x

Hi MrsR - I got mine from Jays Jewellers in Hatton Garden - they did a really nice job, and at a much lower price than I thought it would cost.

I'm getting married in July - we went a bit early 'cos a) it was xmas holidays so thought I'd have a better chance of dragging OH down and b) we wanted to get in before the VAT rise was applied!

Oh, and I agree with the comments for me it's venue then dayspecificsuppliers (e.g. togs, florists), then your dress, then BM dresses, then venue decs - just fit the rings in somewhere around there at a time that suits you!

We got ours very early, just because we saw them liked them and got discount. I'd leave yourself a few months to get it made. Budget, venue, florist, dj, dress are the big things. Everything else seems to fall into place.

I had to find a ring that would accommodate my engagement ring, and it took me 6 months to find one that I liked! So while you won't be spending every living, breathing second looking for rings, you might want to start looking early so you can keep popping in different shops as they have new ranges coming in. I also had to get it and my engagement ring re-sized so they were the same size together (my engagement ring was too big anyway) which took a couple of weeks.

I think it was one of the last things we did! I think you should focus on making bookings first, and maybe leave a few months before the wedding to order them. Unless you want something specific to your ring which might take longer I guess!

Hi, congratulations and welcome to hitched ?

I don't think you have to get wedding rings as one of your 1st things. I got mine in September last year but I had to get it made to fit around my ER. OH has only just got his but most standard jewellers were saying 4 weeks for delivery of a ring so you'll have loads of time.
