wedding rings - this week's task

Feather, 19 February, 2012 at 20:29 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hi All

Ive decided that my task this week, will be to sort my WR. I need a shaped ring, to fit snug against my ER, but have a tight budget for it.

This is my ER;

http://www.marlowsdiamonds.com/engagement-rings/round-brilliant-rings/round-brilliant-cut-diamond-engagement-ring-jem08.html

I like the shapes, of these two WR's;

http://www.weddingrings-direct.com/show_product/SHW-1172/133/6///

So the budget for the WR is £500 maximum and it has to be platinum, as my ER is platinum too. The width can be from 2mm upto 3mm.

Can you recommend where you got yours from? I dont mind ordering online from reputable shops.

Thank you

    Have you considered palladium instead? it can be worn with platinum and is about half the price.

    I don't mean to go against you deliciouswitchchild, but we've been told not to put a palladium ring next to a platinum one. We have been given reasons but I've forgotten ?

    FWIW pixie, I was told yesterday that it can depend on the quality of the alloy as well. My engagement ring is 950 palladium alloy but you can also get 500 alloy. Putting the two different alloys together is less recommended apparently. Were you perhaps told not to put 500 alloy palladium with higher quality platinum?

    You can wear them together. Many jewellers say you can't as they want to sell the more expensive platinum. There is only a 0.5 difference on the mohs hardness scale which apparently isn't enough to cause any wear etc.

    Gold has a 2.0 difference which is a lot more, hence why you can't put gold with platinum or palladium.

    I will have a look now at the palladium alternatives of the styles I like, priceswise.

    that would be only concern wearing the platinum and palladium together, and either of the rings getting damaged in someway.

    As Kharv said, they wouldn't damage each other. They are from the same metal family and are almost equally hard and wearing as each other.
