Wedding Rings - to engrave or not to engrave?

Blonde Viki, 3 March, 2011 at 19:06 Posted on Planning 0 19

Soooo we've ordered our wedding rings! Yay!

Following a small discussion on Facebook I mentioned that we could have them engraved, but don't really know what to have. Bridebrat is in the same boat, so any inspiration would be appreciated...

Did you get your rings engraved or do you plan to? Sensible inscription like the date? Funny, sentimental, personal?

The people at the ring consultation gave us a list of suggestions but well, they weren't really what we were looking for, e.g.

It's all good baby!
I'll never not need you
Married to an angel
...Ring of love
Scumptious bum
Gotcha!
To the moon & back
Because you loved me (yes, past tense!!)
My heart says forever
Pooh ♥ Tiggs
2day 2moro 4eva

What do you think?

EDIT: since disclaimers are all the rage at the moment, I'm not actually in a real boat with Bridebrat Smiley winking

Https://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/d/5135230/18ct+white+gold+diamond+crossover+ring/ my ring- i have got 23.07.11 engraved inside

bear in mind if your band is thin then you arent really going to be able to read what it says- and if its inside then noone is going to see it anyway

I wanted to do it, but i also have no idea! the only thing i keep resting on is the date...... but is that boring?

I agree that nobody can see it but its personal and something you might even forget is there.

But its something nice if you do ever take your ring off to see and remember the day....maybe...or is it just me?!?

We were thinking of having a line or two from a poem such as e.e.cummings 'i carry your heart' but leaning towards just having the date in roman numerals now - simple, means no excuses for forgetting anniverseries ? and personal to us because OH is ex-public schoolboy and actually studied latin at school. I have fond memories of queuing outside the Vatican in Rome and him explaining how roman numerals work to me :-)

It's not just you! I'm quite drawn to having the date too, I just want to make sure I've had a good think about it!

I also quite like the idea of lines which refer to love indirectly, my favourites so far being either:

    Let me count the ways

    or

    Have I told you lately?

However, I've got my eye on the Tiffany 'let me count the ways' bangle, and I don't want to give him an excuse not to get me that heh heh Smiley winking

Ours say "With love, always" (mine) and "always yours" (his). We chose the insides for each other separately, it's just coincidence that they're so similar.

We were going to have the date too, but for no reason at all didn't have it done at the time. And a good thing too, as we subsequently changed our date! We may still get the date done at some point before the wedding.

My dad inscribed "Love [his name]" inside my mum's wedding ring, but as it's all in capitals with no comma she always jokes that it's like a command... as in, "You WILL LOVE [his name]!"

I like "I'll never not need you" but would probably modify it to "want".

We are engraving each others ring with a personal message without the other knowing what it is until the day.

For my message on OHs I am thinking "You, my true love hath my heart. K xxx" which is taken from a line in the poem we are having in our ceremony that OH chose. I can bet he will have "I love you lots and lotsy to the moon and back" (if it will fit) - it's a little game we play with our niece at bedtime. We say the I love you lots and she chips in "and lotsy to the moon and back" in a quick voice before we can. Very soppy I know! ?

I think I have chosen mine now! H2B wants to know but I've said I don't want to tell anyone as I don't want anyone else's opinion on it as it's personal to me so no-one else will get it.

We've had ours done, we have nicknames which lots of our friends know us by and we call each other and we have had "I will (heart) you (forever symbol) Nickname". Not everyone's cup of tea, but I like that we have each others nicknames on them.

I'm getting OH's ring secretly engraved with a messge which he'll see on the day - it's "I love you" and "You'll never walk alone" in Welsh (my OH is Welsh).

He's thinking about getting mine engraved, but knowing him it will probably be something totally daft like "by the cringe" (his favourite expression at the moment).

Weve had ours engraved and i totally love my h2bs ring, sounds weird but as soon as i picked it up after it had been engraved it felt so much more than just a ring,it is 'HIS' special ring! His says, 'first love, forever love 16/04/11' Mine is thinner so couldnt really have much on it, 'K ❤️ K 16/04/11' mines not back yet tho! Cant wait to see it!x

Iwas a bit like you when we were asked about this but in the end we decided to get them engraved, weve only had both our names and our wedding date but it just makes them feel that bit more personal xx
