We're lucky that our DJ is a friend. He does a lot of DJing at do's (Indie, Mod, Northern Soul, Ska etc) & has a good collection of vinyl & CDs so he knows what we like but I think I'll request a few others that are not on usual playlist in advance just because I know not everyone has our taste. My OH says there's a limit mind so no birdy song or other novelty records!!

Yep, definitely drawing one up. I would be rather miffed if the DJ played loads of songs I hated.

If you are really stuck, perhaps you could take some inspiration from Garcefly and turn it into a bit of a party, ask your fellow hens for suggestions during a few bottles of wine??

If you can't think of any specific songs, then just give the DJ an idea of your tastes in music or just general bands that you like. If they are a good DJ they will be able to take on board your comments and suggestions and work it into a great night of music to suit both you and your guests.

When I meet my clients, I normally ask if there are any songs they do NOT want to hear.

Its normally easier to list a few tracks you really can't stand.

I've received "Absolutely no ABBA!", and also "No Cheese/action songs", but also "No RNB/Hip Hop". I would follow-up with a few questions and very quickly get a feel for what they require.

I also then ask if I am to take requests (I'm happy to, but some clients don't want me to).

These give a good guide. Next weekend, the brief is "good family knees up". No songs are banned, but they really want 80s/70s party.

The week after, I'm on a very strict playlist which I hope their guests will enjoy.

Most DJ's will have a collection of 1000's of tracks, yet can only fit about 100 into a typical night. The art comes from which 100 songs will create the right atmosphere for as many as possible..

As you're hopefully hiring a DJ that is experienced in Weddings, they will have the experience to read the crowd and adjust the music to suit.

    All will be fine!

I had my close friends help by each drawing up a list of songs.

I gave my DJ a list of specific songs, but also a list of ones I def didnt want played (Anything by Kenny G!). I included a song for: walking in, cake cutting, 1st dance & last song. Also a few bands/theme of songs I wanted played during the meal.

There are lots of lists online, but it really depends on your age, formality of the wedding & what gets majority of the crowd onto the dance floor.
