I always thought it was Father of Bride, Best Man and then the Groom but now thinking about it I'm not sure what the 'traditional' order is. We will probably do it this way though, and then I'm planning on surprising H2B by getting up after his and doing one myself ?

Thanks - that's the order I had down but wan't totally sure.

    Who thanks who?

Who thanks the bridesmaids? Mother of the bride for their help? I assume it's not the father of the bride but is it the groom or bestman? or both?

Think the best man just compliments the females of the wedding party on how lovely they all look and all the thanking is left to the groom, might be wrong though but think that makes the most sense.

From a purely traditional perspective the father of the bride goes first where he welcomes the groom in to the family. The second speech is by the groom where he follows up the fathers comments. The last is the best mans.

As said, this is the traditional way and there is no reason why it can't be modified in order or others(bride) added...

We're having my dad first, then my OH then his best man. The speeches are before the meal so that they can relax and enjoy their food.

WPS. The tradition is for the groom to respond to the father and finish his speech by toasting the BMs, the best man goes last to respond on behalf of the BMs and himself.

We did it in this way and had ours after dinner, were we to do it again I would put them before food as all three were so nervous they couldn't enjoy the food, which was lovely! We'd had canapes so it wasn't like everyone was overly hungry.

We are going a bit overboard with speeches!

    FOB

    Groom

    Bride

    Best Man (groom's brother)

    Master of Ceremonies/Usher

We were going to break them up inbetween courses, as we saw done at my friends wedding in Rome last year, but they did have 6 speeches and 8 courses! However, as we are moving tables between courses anyway it's just a bit too much, so doing them after the meal.
