wedding stationery -cost?

sophie`, 1 February, 2009 at 16:06 Posted on Planning 0 4

Hi guys, probably a bit of a 'how much is a piece of string question', but we are planning to get our stationery made cos I haven't got the time/patience/ artistic skill to make them!

we need 70 invitations/ 70 menus/ 70 orders of service +1 table plan and have budgeted £400 - does this seem enough? What has everyone else paid? Thanks

    Hi,

I'm not a stationery person so not the best to advise, it does all depend on the design you want. I got quoted around £75 for a gorgeous table plan but you can get them for less, it just depends on what you want and the quality of them I guess.

Why do you need that many menus? I'm having 3/4 menus per table for 70 guests so maybe 35 in total max so you can maybe save on them.

    Hi Sophie

the cost of handmade stationery differs quite a lot from company to company.

from me, the cost of the stationery you want would be roughly £200 - £504, depending on the design you wanted and the type of order of service you wanted...

if you would like to discuss further, please do not hesitate to email me

Following on from what Purrfect Gems said, we're just printing the menu on the reverse of the table number, so we're only doing one per table.

Also, I don't want to sound patronising, but you have allowed for the fact that you will only be sending one invite per couple/family, rather than per person? Every single bride I know has done this at some point in their planning!

Oops -no hadn't thought about the whole family/ couple thing - that should cut the number of invitations at least by half! What a wolly I am. Also hadn't really thought about one order of service between 2 - good idea! . With the menu thing, I saw a really nice design where they had attached names to each of the menus, so if we decided to go down that route would need a menu each. but should definitely save us some money overall!

    Hi Sophie

The price will really depend on the style and format you choose. Invitations can cost anything from under £1 each to £10's (mine are priced between about £1.50 - £6.00). You may find some of the bulk print companies like Bride and Groom quite cost effective but will have little scope for personalisation. Whereas the smaller handmade stationery companies will offer more choice and opportunity to possibly combine items. As mentioned above, it's not usually necessary to have a menu per person (usually 1 or 2 per table). But perhaps you could have a table plan designed to include the menu displayed within it - with the money saved by not having 70 individual menus you could maybe upgrade to a more luxuriously finished plan. Or perhaps have a Wedding Programme that combines the Order of Service, Menu and Seating plan/list. Likewise, some of my customers include their menus within a pocketfold style invitation (along with other inserts). There are lots of possibilities you could explore.

Hope that helps - suz x
