Wedding Themes

debstar79, 19 August, 2011 at 14:30 Posted on Planning 0 17

I just wondered what themes people are having for their weddings as mine has had a few varied reactions !!!

this is because me and my partner are huge west ham fans and i grew up in that area of london before we moved, so i have chosen to have my colours for the wedding as claret and blue and i have also included burrterflies in to my wedding theme's !!!

so i was wondering if anyone has had different reactions when people have found out about themes and colours !!!

Did you see the episode of DTTB with the claret and blue wedding? I think it was repeated either last night or the night before.

We have wedding colours but not a theme really; just stuff we like.

No adverse reactions no, but I had fancied teal for the bridesmaids and was quickly told by my sister/maid of honour that she wanted lavender, then my mum said lavender would tie in with the kilts so lavender it was!

Also mum got a butterfly stamp with her card making kits so we ended up wtih butterflies on the invites lol

I refused to have butterflies as a table name theme tho as I didnt like the names much so we have scottish castles for that lol - a bit of a mishmash but will all come together im sure....

We're not having a theme as such, but I am having the colour blue (because H2B is a HUUUUGE Everton fan).

I am totally 100% having massive bowls of sweets on the tables though because I loooooooove sweets!

Our loose theme is 'forest in the autumn', as, well, we're getting married in a hotel in the New Forest in the autumn!

Our other colour apart from her dress is hunter green, we're bringing in autumnal colours for accents (burgundy, gold, yellow, brown etc) and some dried pampas grass type stuff from Ikea for aisle ends. We're also using pine cones as name holders for people's places.

As autumn is also harvest (and it sort of fits in the countryside/autumn type thing) we're using dried cereal stalks with lavender for our table centrepieces.

We're not having a theme as such, although OH does refer to us having a "autumn theme" - it's not an out-and-out theme, we just used Autumn as a basis for our colour scheme - claret and gold in the main with hints of green and orange in my bouquet. Our tables are named after local waterfalls.

I'm not a fan of over the top themes, just not my cup of tea at all.

Because the place we are getting married at has such amazing gardens and OH is a landscaper we have a loose garden theme. The flowers are in wateringcans for the centrepieces. The flowers are going to look just picked and hand tied together. My bracelet and earrings are silver vines with pearl buds and cystal leaves. The favours are terracotta pots with seeds in them :-)

I picked colours I liked (silver, charcoal grey, ivory, hot pink) and I always wanted the 'big' dress. I guess it was a bit of a 'princessy' wedding!

Our theme is '2 people get arried and have a bit of a knees up'. I don't like themed weddings - themes are for fancy dress parties.

I am having a fancy dress hen party though.

My partner and I will be having a claret and blue theme, but mainly because my fiance is a BIG West Ham fan, and I like purple/claret so it fits for us really...We haven't really told many people what we are having but I think anyone that knows my fiance will know that it will be West Ham themed lol

We're having a monopoly theme for the wedding breakfast (so mainly just table plan, table names etc).

We chose it because OH as I when through a phase when we were younger of collecting and playing the different monopoly versions. Plus we both have a connection to London lived/work there so there are links to the places on the monopoly board... I work in Mayfair so I have a link to our top table name too!

We are having a purple, beach, England and Wales theme - although not as over the top as it sounds! The purple is the main colour, so bridesmaids dress, flowers, my jewellery. The venue over looks a beach, so we are having a sandcastle wedding cake, and beach themed centrepieces. The England and Wales theme is the hymns (Jerusalem and Bread of Heaven), a knight and dragon to stand in front of the cake, and possibly some of the cufflinks, and nothing else.

They are not over the top themes, just a way of tying together the decoration and things like that.

Classic video games, like legends of Zelda, Mario etc. There are lots of other geeky refs in there too. Most people have chalked it up to typically US and are quite enthusiastic about it
