Wedding Themes

CraftyBride, 21 May, 2012 at 15:57 Posted on Planning 0 4

We have just started thinking about what we want our reception to look like and I wondered if anyone had picked a theme instead of a colour and also if you do have a theme how far did you take it ?? Is a theme okay with only touches of it or do you think that you need to have a complete theme for it to work. Any suggestions would be great and anything people have seen or done and it worked would be wonderful.

Thanks

As we are both welsh and are getting married on St Davids Day, our theme is welshy! But not ott, we are having chocolate welsh love spoons and welsh dragons for the favours, using a lot of daffodils in our arrangements our stationary will feature dragons and daffs, the men have welsh dragon cufflinks and I'm, buying the bridesmaids earrings and necklaces that have lovespoons and daffodils.

So it's just touches, I think that if you over theme something it can seem too forced.

We are having a peacock theme, but i have only chosen elements of it and it has transformed slightly over the course of the planning.

We started with Peacock Navy colour, we toyed with teal or green but Navy won.

I then decided I had to have white roses as they are my fave flower and also it fitted in well with the fact we are getting married in Yorkshire.

I then bought my wedding jewllery and its white gold and pearl so its ended up as a Navy, Cream/Pearl and silver theme

We are having Navy for the BMs and main colour accents. Peacock feathers in my bouquet and the rest is ivory from the white roses and pearls lol

Bits of a mix but its working so far!

We love New York, we've been a few times and OH booked a surprise trip there last year and proposed, so there was no question we'd have a NY theme. Our invites are NY themed, so is our table plan, we are having Alicia Keys, Empire State of Mind as our first dance and will carry it through in other subtle ways.

Haven't started planning the wedding in great detail yet but I know that I definitely want vintage involvement e.g. am already wearing my grandmother's ring, am going to use some of her 1950s jewellery for my bouquet and am hoping to wear a vintage inspired gown. More specifically, I'd like a street party sort of vibe for the reception. Bunting and everything. It's a nod to my East End roots plus it's informal which is what we both want. No idea yet how we'll pull it off plus my fiancé has to agree ...

    Hi,

I think you can take it as far as you feel right with. If you choose a colour then that is straightforward. A theme such as Ocean could lead to fish bowls on the table, shells etc.Depends on the type of look you want to achieve ie. pretty, sophisticated, plain and smart, etc.

Why not look on Google images or in wedding magazines and make a mood board of pics you like and use the best bits of each to make you own unique style.

    Hope this helps
