Wedding Themes

neo_kat26, 22 April, 2013 at 12:16 Posted on Planning 0 31

Wondering if anyone has a theme running through their weddings? I like the idea of having a bit of a theme but nothing is springing out to me. We are having a summer wedding. Flashes very welcome!!! ?

I am having a faerie/woodland theme check out my Pinterest Board (link in sig) < Pinterest; That's a good place to start.

Your theme could simply be choosing a different colour scheme as it's a summer wedding, think brights. Also choose something personal to you and your H2B Smiley smile Do you collect something? Have certain hobbies? Travel? Music? etc

Put it this way... opposites attract! lol ? Not much in way of hobbies that we share!

I like the thought of having a yellow theme....

We're having a coastal theme. Our favourite beaches as table names, sticks of rock as favours, buckets filled with goodies for the kiddies, then bits and pieces like shells and stuff scattered around the venue.

We didnt have one overwhelming theme, but did have butterflies incorporated on the cake, in the place names & invites.

You dont need a particular theme if you dont want either.

If you like yellow, could you incorporate daffodils (if not the actual flower then things in the that shape) or sunflowers? My SIL gave away sunflower seeds as favours & had them in her bouquet & in the centrepieces. Yellow goes well with purple if you wanted a contrasting look.

We didn't have a theme as such. We had black, pink and purple as our colours, with bits of Hello Kitty (cake topper, my headband, necklace and fleshplugs)

I think it depends a lot on the reception venue. Our reception is taking place in a forest in the Alps, so its very outdoorsy!

Very good point. Our reception is in a converted barn and it ties nicely with a rustic/vintage theme. Have a look at my pinterest link. Pinterest is a great way to pull themes together!

    Hi,

My daughters had themes of water ie, candles in fish bowls, sand and shells etc as they are divers, and the other was Alice in wonderland/Queeen of hearts with card suit bunting, black, red and white etc.

We have a Me to You theme to our wedding, it sounds really bad, but it's been part of our relationship since my OH attended my 18th birthday nearly 7 years ago! When we got the invites they had a pink, ivory and gold colour scheme going on and the walls of our ceremony venue are a deep red-pink wallpaper with gold details throughout the room, so it all tied in beautifully!

We're going for a game of thrones, festival mash up.

Certainly wont be to everyone's taste and not especially weddingy but perfect for us.

I bought a chest a couple of weeks ago to house the "dragon eggs" i've made, which i'm ridiculously excited about, so i'll flash that!

Sorry FB friends and Instagrammers who have already seen!

Hahah no, not going for a traditional Dothraki wedding, don't want anyone killed ?

We're taking inspiration for the decor from the book/series as it's outdoors in tipis, so it'll be quite "rustic" anyway.

Hmmm well, ours was recently described (by my future sis in law/planner) as whimsical, fairyesque meets a hint of Marie Antoinette and Alice in wonderland for a floral garden tea party! So basically just a mish mash of about 4 themes hehehe

Just better hope the guests don't take the theme too seriously and start chopping off each other's heads etc - weddings don't seem to work out too well in GoT! It does look like an awesome plan though.

Multi-colour themes are very popular this Summer using a mix of bright, vibrant shades and having bridesmaids in different coloured dresses. Lemon is another fav too and looks lovely with lilacs and purples mixed in, really fresh and summery. English country garden and vintage look is still going strong although stronger colours, bolder patterns and quirkier ideas are becoming popular too especially for next year.

We're sort of having a retro childhood theme in the evening. Tables are all named after childhood games and have travel games on them for the guests to play with. There is also a good sprinkling of LEGO to keep my OH happy, with LEGO minifigures as place names/favours and I even think the top table flower arrangement is going to be built around one of his technic LEGO models.

But its all quite loose at the mo... the day part of the wedding will have a birdy theme as we are getting married in a bird of prey sanctury (the rings are even being delivered by a Barn Owl, very cheesy I know but it makes me smile).

We're having a vintage-y, wintery, mildly geeky wedding, it seems. Partner is a Doctor Who fangirl, so she's insisting on touches of TARDIS blue throughout, and I'm knitting her a giant stripey scarf to wear for some of the pictures as a surprise. It's not my cup of tea at all, but the poor woman is entirely uninterested in weddings and she's only asked for two things, one of which I rejected on food safety grounds. So I kinda had to give in to the blue.

We're basically going for a vintage wedding in the sense that it's something my grandmother would recognise as a wedding; immediate family, small ceremony, dresses we can wear again. Nothing extravagant or expensive, most things DIY, basically keeping it simple, chic and classic. I'm worried it's going to wind up being a bit hipster, but I can live with it.

I have my dress, but it's not like khaleesis ☹️

A little bit of me would like to go all out with it, but we'll just be sticking with using it as inspiration for decor I think. It's only our friends really that even know what GoT is, I think anything more than that would be completely lost on everyone else.

Although I did see an amazing replica dress on etsy. Maybe for the evening!

We're having a 50s Americana, kind of diner style theme, with black and white polka dots and splashes of red ?
