Wedding Transportation/BMs...

anna89, 21 October, 2012 at 15:42 Posted on Planning 0 9

Hi All,

Can I ask how much you are spending/have spent on your wedding car and transportation for guests? I'd like a vintage car, plus an old fashioned routemaster bus, and the quotes I've been getting have been over £1000, which I wasn't expecting! Also, are you expected to hire a nice car for bridesmaids?

The Bridesmaids went in a normal car with my sister. I think if you have the money to send them in a nice car then do it but dont worry if you dont?

I have been a bridesmaid a few times and always gone to the venue in a normal car, I wouldnt expect it tbh as the couple have enough to spend money on!

We had a Rolls Royce Silver Spirit, and it did one trip (about 10 mins each way) for the BMs and my Mum, then came back for my Dad and me. I think it was about £190 for that plus picking OH and me up at the end of the night - we got it from an executive taxi firm rather than a specialist wedding car one.

We didn't need transport for our guests as our reception was within walking distance of the ceremony venue.

This tine round, nothing. Married on the beach so walked, and decorated my campervan for the reception, OH drove us there and my Dad gave us a lift home so we picked the van up next day.

First time round, I had a coach and horses, BMs went with Mum in Dad's car decorated with ribbons and driven by my uncle (if you follow that!). I couldn't justify more expense for BMs and Mum when Dad had a big silver car that looked fab when decorated.

I have been an adult BM 4 times:

20yrs ago - went in separate car booked for BMs

11yrs ago - in open topped cadillac with bride and her other BM, blaring out Billy Idol's "White Wedding" through the streets of Nottingham at top volume. It was a bit of a rocker wedding!

9yrs ago - went in limo with bride and other BMs. I don't think the bride had much to do with her Dad

9yrs ago - in a large wedding car with bride and her Mum and Dad. She was my childhood friend and wanted me with her pretty much 24/7 before the ceremony to stop her nerves and make sure people didn't stress her out. I remember her at her house yelling to her family "If your name's not C.... (me!), get out of my house NOW!" LOL!! Bless her, she didn't want me to leave her side until she was actually saying her vows!

So basically, anything goes. Remember though, that despite how much you spend on transport, people won't expect it of you in advance, or remember it afterwards. it's a nice to have, not a must have Smiley smile

I'm paying the following in terms of transport:

£375 - Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. Will transport MOB, BM and Page Boy from parents house to church (literally a 30 second trip) and will then return for FOB and I. After the ceremony, it will take OH and I the 30 miles to the reception, and at the end of the night will take us to our hotel.

£275 - Ford Galaxy Ghia. Will transport OH, his parents and BM to the church from our house (a 2 min drive). After the ceremony it'll take all 4 parents, Bridesmaid and Best Man to the reception

£550 for a standard double decker bus to transport guests from church to reception. At night it'll do a pick-up in our home town and bring evening guests to the reception, and at the end of the night will bring all guests back. We did look at coach companies, but we'd have needed two coaches and the cost would have been over £1k.

I am very lucky in that I know somebody who owns a routemaster and they are doing our transport as a wedding gift but I think the average price is about £600 x
