Wedding Venues

Hi one and all,

I'm hoping that you may be able to help me (again!!)

I'm trying to find a venue to have my wedding at and I'm hoping you girlies may be able to offer some suggestions or recommendations if you have any. My H2B (first time I've written that!! haha) and I are looking for somewhere small and intimate to have a civil ceremony and reception...we've got about 50 guests, with possibly up to 10-15 more coming for the party. We were originally looking at small converted barns etc but we cant really find anywhere suitable within our location restraints - 30 mins from my H2B's parents. We have guests travelling from all over the UK and we live in the Middle East so we're looking for somewhere close to a 'base'.

So, my MIL 2B came up with a fab idea of renting a licenced little hotel/Inn to have the whole thing at that way none of our guests who will be travelling from all over the place need to worry about going home and it also means there's no finish time really, exactly what we want!

So, does anyone know of anywhere that's pretty small, rustic (as in we like brickwork/exposed woodwork/tiled or wooden floors/wooden chairs as we don't want seat covers) within the North Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire area...or we could go nearer my parents in Cheshire...

Just reaching out in case anyone can help! :o) Thanks in advance. x

    Hi Nat

What have you looked at so far? There are the usual contenders for the Gloucestershire Area, Kingscote Barn, Cripps Barn, Great Tythe Barn and The Dark Barn at Rudford but these are usually for larger numbers unless you go for a weekday wedding maybe?

There is the Fison Barn in Abingdon in South Oxfordshire which does sit down for up to 80 but I'm not sure what the accommodation is like in the area. It is only 20 mins from Oxford. There is the Tythe Barn nr Bicester but again, more south oxfordshire but they do cater from 40 people. It really depends on your budget and what you wanted to spend.

I'm a wedding planner in Gloucestershire so know the venues well, how flexible are you in what you are after? There are amazing venues with accommodation and loads of character from Castles to country houses.

    Hi

I have a day off so Im catching up on some hitching, when we started viewing venues we did an extensieve trawl of venues in gloucestershire apart from the ones finesse mentioned

Lucking court (they were just starting out when we saw them) it is a small venue lovely setting for photos

these two we didn't make it to see as we fell in love with our venue but thought they might at least give you food for thought

A little out of your area but it may help other hitchers who are still trying to choose a venue. If nothing else if you read through a few of the reviews it may give you an idea of some of the things to look out for like wheelchair access, wet weather areas etc.

    Hi Nat

Whereabouts in Cheshire are your parents?

We had our wedding at the Old Vicarage Hotel in Holmes Chapel in 2006, we had all of the restaurant, bar area (which is large) and the conservatory so there was plenty of room. Had 60 for the day and a lot more for the evening - so your numbers would fit there nicely.

They have 31 bedrooms so the place would be basically be yours.

Let me know where abouts in Cheshire you would be looking and I'll let you know of any venues I think would be good - am in the wedding industry as a decorator, so know a lot in the South Cheshire/North Staffordshire area.
