Wedding website

LittleSnowflake, 26 June, 2014 at 08:04 Posted on Planning 0 16

I'm sure it's been posted before somewhere but I'm wondering what (if any) wedding website you used and whether it was worth setting one up?

I personally think they are a useful way of keeping your guests up to date with all the info for your big day. Guests can RSVP online, you can give them detailed directions and info about transport and accommodation as well as having a photo gallery and timetable for the day. It saves ending numerous emails or including lots of paper inserts within your invitations.

This is one of my favs and it is free to use - www.gettingmarried.co.uk

I'm (hopefully, when I get round to it) buying a domain and some hosting and building one myself, but there are loads of free sites that allow you to set one up and provide templates.

Some friends of mine used gettingmarried.co.uk and apparently it was very easy to set up and they used it to track RSVPs and give guests extra info.

When we got married we used a website to give people the information they needed to know like hotel prices, other local hotels if the one we were getting married at was too dear. The schedule of events, RSVP and also choose their meal. The last two was an utter godsend as it meant we could easily keep track and we just downloaded a spreadsheet with all the meals on, added the number of each meal up then just handed it over to the hotel.

It was also good for putting photos up, sharing fun facts people may/may not want to know like a little bit about each of the wedding party.

I guess most of our family were fairly IT literate so a website wasn't a big deal. For our older relatives like my grandparents we just called them and entered the details in.

We used a template website from gettingmarried.co.uk I could have tried to build one but quite honestly it would have been a huge timesink and why reinvent the wheel eh?

I've done one, and can't wait to make it live ha. I used gettingmarried.co.uk. (If you want to see how it works just let me know and I'll send you the details). We picked this site as we could taylor the RSVP section to how we wanted it as we are not having a traditional wedding breakfast and an open invitation to the reception with 2 times of arrival available, will see how that works though.

Another good thing about it is that we don't have to put all the details in the invitations (again we are going the non-traditional route), we are just giving them the day and you are invited to ceremony and reception, or ceremony, directing people to get the info from the website and giving them their RSVP password relevant to which part of the day they are invited too. (Hope that makes sense)

Especially now with majority of people technology savy, why not use it to your advantage.

On the whole I agree with this, however ours isn't just going to be a wedding site, but post-wedding it'll be a family blog/photo website so we're planning for the long term, not just for a wedding....

I've used mywedding.com (I wish it was ourwedding.com) and our site is pretty much ready to launch. Wedding isn't for a couple of years so at the mo I'm just adding bits to it. Will add accommodation info nearer the time, but for now I've got the story of how we met and the engagement, stories of how we met BM and MOH and a little about the bridesmaids. Waiting for OH to add stuff about his other groomsmen, but that'll not happen for a couple of years. It also has a blog page so I've been writing little blogs, which I'll probably delete before sending the password to friends and family - it's just given me the chance to get thoughts down a bit.

Our venue has a planner website which we will have to enter RSVPs and meal choices etc into, so it's a little bit of duplication, but our guests can't access our venue's planner. If we did postal RSVPs I'd probably have a spreadsheet anyway, so may as well have the whole site. I've enjoyed putting it together Smiley smile

I've also found it useful when friends have had sites, just to refer back to for info.

I used mywedding.com for our wedding website and guests loved it. It was simple to use, had great designs and we even set up our honeymoon gift list through it. It's worth doing.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to create our own website at the time as we were too busy with work and wedding planning and too much calls from family friends and suppliers. hahaha. but a good site is www.gettingmarried.co.uk

I started making one a while back but never got round to finishing it. We've got an event page on facebook (that was originally set up as a 'save the date') and I've just been posting information on there.

I have tried for 3 days with gettingmarried.co.uk and have never received my activation/confirmation email to actual start it. I have sent them a message on FB and to their direct email and have not had a reply from either. Not impressed at all.

I didn't get on with gettingmaried.co.uk because after leaving it alone for a few months when I went back it had all disappeared. Very frustrating and then wouldn't let me register as my email was already on their system but wouldn't accept my password. I asked for wa new password on several occasions and it never came through.

So, I switched to zankyou.com, which was exceptionally simple to use, allowed us to take out all the pages we didn't want and to add lots that we did. All done from scratch in one evening with 17 pages of info/photos it was so very simple. I'd recommend them absolutely.

After much consideration I don't think I'll be going for a website, I think it might just be a waste of time as it seems most of my guests are older.
