Wedding/event planner/manager help!

erinm, 8 January, 2013 at 14:25 Posted on Planning 0 13

Hi all

Does anybody know of any good, very reasonably priced companies who can 'manage' my wedding day? I've stupidly decided to book an empty village hall because after working in hotels i didnt want to marry in one and cant afford a luxuary barn or anything so thought it'd be easy to decorate a hall etc!

Well yes decorating and flowers is all very pretty and easy but who runs the day? :-/ not me, i dont want to be worrying about table clearing and tea/coffee serving! our hog raost company provide 1 chef & 1 waitress & i can hire more waiting staff but i want someone to be there to manage the day! I was also going to rent tea/coffee urns and cups/saucers but i dont really want a 'help yourself' table that guests have to go up to and serve themselves, i'd rather some waiting staff did it.

Do people agree that at such a 'DIY' venue i need an event manager? or is there some other miraculous trick i can pull out of the bag?

Have over 6 months to sort it but having a mini-meltdown about it now :-(

Hey Erin, don't fret you've come to the right place! I'm a bit biased on the wedding planning front ? but I can definitely recommend that having someone on the day that is totally devoted to you and your husband's needs would take a considerable amount of stress and pressure off your back in the weeks/months leading up to the day and on the actual day itself. Many planning companies can tailor build an on-the-day coordination package giving you exactly the amount of service you may require. In addition they can be on hand to help suggest useful suppliers and resources that can save you money in the process. Most of all, you should not be dealing with the behind the scenes running of your wedding day - the day is meant to be loved and enjoyed not managed. What area will you be getting married in? I might be able to recommend some people worth looking into. If you are in the London, Berkshire or Buckhinghamshire areas - drop us a line, we are here to help. =)

    Good luck!

Ah thanks Kathrine, I'm based in Hampshire actually :-) do you know anyone? I've found Isabella weddings, RSVP weddings and some others online so far and most charge £500 for on the day coordination but although that seems pricey for one day i have a £360 hall rather than a £5000 hoptel where a coordinator would be included so i think ill treat myself to a coordinator! I've planned and managed lots of weddings for previous jobs but like u said i cant manage behind the scenes on my own w day

    thanks again

    Hi Erin,

Let me put out a few feelers to my supplier friends and see what they suggest. I'll come back to you shortly. =)

    Have a nice evening.

    Hi Katherine,

Wedding is Friday 2nd August and ceremony is at Petersfield registry offcie (guess that bit is pretty self managable) and the reception is at Lower Upham Village Hall (which is in Upham on the outskirts of Winchester)

    thanks

Hi again Erin, I've just sent a couple of messages out to a few colleagues to see if someone can help you out. Sadly we are committed on August 2nd otherwise we would love to meet with you and see what we ourselves could do to help you out as Hampshire is easy enough for us to reach. I shall see what comes through and get back in touch. If you could email me your contact information I can then forward it on to other planners, alternatively I can email you more information. Our email is **@*****************.***

Looking forward to hearing from you. =)

    Hi Erin

I did a quick look and found http://www.absoluteperfection.co.uk/wedding-planner-services.html

You can hire one of their students for £150 which I think is a good deal.

Worth having a look, me thinks? ?

    Good luck!

www.magpiecrockery.co.uk are totally awesome and will dress the venue too. Loved all their vintage stuff at a wedding last year.

Here's the blog post I did on them:

I was wondering the exact same thing! We have a 'shell' venue so have had to hire everything in, and it just dawned on me that I won't want to spend the day checking on timings etc, and I don't think my family want to spend the day doing it either. It sounds like it could be worth the money to me.

Yeah defo Jessie_bride, if your venue like ours is a bargain then spending a few hundred on someone managing the day is no different to having an expensive hotel (who would have a coordinator included in price). Defo got to be worth it i say, no stress for us on the day then :-)
