Weddings, parties etc - what frocks are you wearing?

Fenella Fudge, 26 March, 2009 at 13:12 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 68

Got 2 weddings coming up in a month or so plus my Mom's 65th birthday.

I can wear something that I've worn before to my mom's party but not to the weddings.

I know you lot are all fashion guru's so just wondered if anyone wanted to flash their dress/outfit? (thought I had gone back to WP then)

    I haven't a clue ?

My friend (who was my BM) is getting married in a very posh hotel in June. I think I might go in a binbag, although a wheely bin liner might be more appropriate. ?

    What size are you?

If you don't mind this being a general frock advice thread, I'll chip in and say I'm a busty 22, I would love some advice! I was a size 8 when I went to my last wedding in 2004 (Can you believe I wore a trouser suit as I thought I was too big for a dress. Nuts. I paid for it though, the only other woman in trousers was the notoriously butch lesbian auntie! ?)

I'm recycling an old outfit for the first wedding of the 'season' (cannot believe I just said that).

For anything other than that, will probably get myself down to Whistles, Reiss and French Connection. Between those three I always find something (particularly Reiss)

Where's the posh hotel Mrs Magic?

Well I'm dieting...lost about a stone but would like to lose another stone and half so I might be a 12/14 but with fat legs so I dont do over the knee or anything too fitted. I prefer more floaty stuff.

I wish I could give you advice but I'm useless, I really am!

Geekypants - never looked in Reiss, is it a shop for thin people? If I remember rightly you wore a Jenny Packham dress, didnt you, like I did but I think your naturally slim.

Ahh ok...was thinking it was more local.

Thanks...you too. Hope someone can help you.

Just saw a nice long dress but always think long dresses are a bit ott and dramatic.

    Ooh, nice dress, Sophie!

This is one of the reviews for it:

""Chic, vibrant colour for these crunch times. Very stylish but low value for money. Not lined with cheap open zipper at the back. A bit disappointing but will serve as a crowd stopper especially for ladies of colour""

Am a leeetle bit ? TBH.

I wore this dress to a March wedding, but in a lady bird on black background print.

I forgot to answer the question!

I am currently lusting after a dress from here: http://www.vivienofholloway.com/ as they suit my figure (such that it is ?) but I have nowhere to wear one!

Well, clearly they don't have a clue - exposed zips are one of the key trends this SS.

I'm fairly slim I suppose (10/12), but I on't think Reiss is exclusively 'thin'. Their clothes are quite structured, which flatters most people, no? Their customer service is excellent, as well, which might help.

I haven't been shopping, either online or IRL for ages, but Karen Millen and Warehouse can be good too (although with Warehouse I always get the fear that someone else will have to same thing).

I must be the odd one out, as I haven't ever bought an outfit to attend a wedding or similar occasion. The one time I did try to spend money on wedding clothes, I came home with cream suede pirate boots and a skull print top. And yes I did wear them to the wedding!

I always try to recycle the clothes I have, as I know that special occasion clothes wouldn't get worn enough to justify the money. However, the amount of black and dark colours I wear does make this hard for summer weddings... but funerals I have down to a pat ?

I've bought this dress for a wedding in June, i was planning on using it for an evening do too. I was worried it might be too dark for summer but will just add lighter accessories. It is really lovely on, plus it comes to well below my knee which is great!

I asked Vivien of Holloway to make my wedding dress a and she was a right snotty cow! But I do love all the underskirts.

Only reason I need to buy 2 new outfits is the weddings are all the same friends, there have been 5 weddings in less than a year and all the same people so I wouldnt want to recycle an outfit plus I cant fit into my old dresses ?

I have this one from Monsoon that I've worn out to dinner in a nice restaurant and to a party.

And this one also from Monsoon which i wore for my own hen party and am planning to wear to a wedding in a few weeks.

Both look quite different on me though as I'm a size 22.

I have 5 weddings this year and am going to recycle some outfits, just need to sit down and work out which groups of friends have seen which dress at a wedding before ?

I'm going to re-wear this Asda number (although I'm almost a stone lighter now so need some serious padding upfront - I'm wearing a mattress-like bra in this pic as it is ?)

You can't see this one very well but it's kind of a tea dress I'd guess. Funny pic but it's the only one I've got!

I think I might manage all the weddings without even buying a new dress!

My tip is try supermarkets clothing ranges - they change their stock often, they do have some good stuff and you're unlikely to find anyone else wearing the same!

I have two weddings to go to this year and am lusting after this from Next, but I need to shed some serious belly fat for it to look decent and I'm also stuck as to what footwear to put it with. I was thinking black suede slouch boots, but hmmm...

GWTW, that would be seriously hard to wear. no way would I attempt it, I don't even think the model looks that good tbh.

we have a wedding in spain in sept, i haven't even thought about what I'll wear but it'll have to be something i already have as we are skinto ?. i have a few nice minidresses that could work with flats and a cardi for the evening.

They are lovely, but I don't think I have the legs for them, sadly! (Or the balance 😄).

When this started loading and the header came up, I found myself expecting a frock in the Aston Villa colours..... It's very nice though (and not claret and blue at all!)

Mrs M - what about something like this?

    http://www.bravissimo.com/products/clothing/dresses-and-skirts/bravissimo/bc32-details.aspx

It goes up to an 18 but because it has extra fabric around the boobs, I find they are quite generous in their cut. I can wear a 16 top with Bravissimo while I am having to wear a 20 from Marks.

I have this and it is lovely but not really a dress for a wedding unless you wanted to wear with some fab bright accessories?
