Weekday wedding

KateSF, 29 August, 2011 at 19:31 Posted on Planning 0 14

Evening ladies,

The H2B and I are getting married on a Thursday next June (it saved us literally thousands of pounds rather than a Friday/Saturday/Sunday). Is anyone else having a weekday wedding? How have your guests reacted to it? I'm interested to hear other people's experiences.

Thanks xxx

I would of been happy with a weekday wedding as you say it saves you so so much money! Sadly for us it wasn't practical as we have people travelling from all over the country and from overseas to our wedding so it makes sense to have it at a weekend as it is alot easier for everyone to arrange travel plus alot of our guests work monday to friday (I wish I did!)

I really hope you enjoy it, I am a June bride, getting married on June 23rd 2012!

Thanks MonaLisaBride - agreed, that if you have people traveling from all over, the weekday thing is tricky.... thanks for your post - has made me feel better ?

We are marrying on a Friday, it's made no difference on the cost of things though. Some people have said they arent overly pleased at having to take a days holiday to attend our wedding, well that's simple, don't come.

I am getting married on a Thursday. Unless loads of people drop out at the last minute we have had a brilliant amount of people saying they can attend. We are both shift workers though and a lot of our friends are the same so weekends off are actually sometimes harder for me to get that a weekday.

It saved us quite a lot of money as well,i think Thursday or Friday are the best weekdays for weddings .

Hi Hawk. I completely agree - if someone doesn't want to take a day off for our wedding, simple, don't come. My best friend got married miles away from us, and had a two day wedding - it cost us loads of money in travel and accommodation, and we had to take time off work. The thing is, I love my best friend, and so it didn't matter. Thanks for your post - you are on my wavelength. x

Were getting married on a Thursday, i think people sometimes like an excuse to have an extended weekend, i am worried not many evening guests will want to attend though!!

Although i recently went to a Monday wedding, as an evening guest and with work the next day didn't think it would have a great feel to it, but when we got there it made no difference at all and was a really great night!!

We are also thinking of having a Friday wedding and hoping that it will make things a little cheaper and also easier to get an August date! It affects less than half of our daytime guests and my opinion is that if they are not happy to take a day off then don't come. As my OH and I come from different cities about 1 1/2 hours apart a Friday or Sunday seem the only option as otherwise it would require people taking 2 days off. Has anyone investigated the difference in prices between a Friday and Sunday as just by quick glance a Sunday seems even cheaper! with such a large family we have to cut costs somehow!

We are getting married on a monday, the 25th June 2012. I am going to 2 other weddings this year that are on weekdays, I don't think it matters!

We are having a Thursday wedding. Have saved lots on the venue and lots of suppliers have given us discounts for having it midweek.

Haven't sent my invites yet but save the dates went out a few weeks ago and so far haven't had anyone say anything negative about it. Most of our family are taking the Thursday and Friday off and making a long weekend of it.

Make an appeal to the chairman of the board of Governors. Reasonable reasons for absence can usually be accommodated.

We are getting married on a friday, the same package was £1000 cheaper. Everyone has been fine with it so far and we have had no guests unable to make it. Although am just waiting for the last two!

A few have said they quite like the Friday and dont mind using it as a holiday as they then still have the weekend all to themselves and to recover
