Weekend in Grasmere, lake district recommendations please

Take your waterproofs and walking boots, a map and a guidebook and go and do some walks. We're going to Grasmere for a week over New Year and want to do Helm Crag, and Loughrigg as definites, and will add a couple more depending on weather.

There's a nice cafe by the river (sorry, can't remember what its called), and I know people have recommended The Jumble Room before. And I'd also definitely recommend Lucy's in Ambleside - either Lucy's on a Plate, or Lucy's 4 (more tapas style food).

Thanks for that, we're definitely going walking while we're there so it's nice to hear of recommended walks.

I think a trip to the Jumble room will be in order too!

Thanks for your replies, I think I'm going to go with my original choice for hotel as the one that sarahjl has suggested looks GORGEOUS but slightly out of my price range. I can't wait to go!!
