Weekly film thread

Blackkat, 2 June, 2011 at 18:01 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

I thought, as we're trying to spice up OT, I thought I'd start up a film thread. My H & I go to the cinema every Wednesday for Orange wednesday so maybe we can have a weekly film club.

Yesterday we saw 'The Hangover 2'. I really enjoyed the 1st 1 & was looking forward to this 1. Unfortunately it was almost the exact same story. I don't think it helped that the cinema was full of annoying talkers and people that laughed at things that weren't funny. There were also a few mildly racist comments which kinda put me off.

Anyone watched anything else recently?

I watched "4321" on the Sky Box (Sky+ it ages ago) and it was really good...different to what I had thought.

On Saturday after taking my OH to see my fav venue and hopefully book it (squeeeeee) we're going to go and see X:Men First Class

Wish I could join in on this! H ans I have not been to the cinema since the day I was due to have E and we watched Toy Story 3! I don't have anyone here to look after E whilst we do such simple things lol. Think our next visit to the UK will include a trip to the cinema whilst E is with her grandparents! Wanted to see The Hangover 2, may just give it a miss now! I watched Social Network last night on TV. Interesting even though it's not quite an accurate story.

I enjoyed it - I switched off, didn't have to think too much and could munch popcorn to my hearts content (whoopsie). Sometimes I need a bit of "brainless-vision" as the OH calls it

I suggested to Mr T that we go this evening once he finishes work (he finishes early on a thursday) so may well have a wonderful insightful and critical review to add on here later. Either that or i will sum the whole 2 1/2 hours in 3 or 4 selcted words!!

    Good thought for a thread.

We don't go to the cinema very often. Last film we went to see was 'Your Highness' The acting was shockingly bad and the only thing that saved me from walking out were a few bits that were so funny I had tears rolling down my cheeks. If they hadn't been in it, it would have been awful!

Last film I saw at the cinema was Pirates of the Caribbean 4 : whatever it's sub-title is ?

Haven't seen any of the others but because we have Sky I get emails every now and again to give me free tickets to premiers so we saw it the week before it came out. I enjoyed it, it was in 3D which always makes me feel like a big kid for some reason!

My CBM wants to go see X-Men : First Class tomorrow and so I'll be able to review that on Saturday hopefully! I bloomin' love the X-Men films!

What did you think? I quite enjoyed it but my OH wasn't so keen, he thought it was a bit childish.

Maybe it could also be about good DVDs we've recently rented/watched for the first time, or films seen for the first time on TV as well as the cinema.

If we are going to include DVD's as well then we watched The Fighter last night. Wasnt really sure what I was expecting, picked it up more for Mr T if I am honest (although having Cristian Bale and Mark Walhburg was definentlyof interest to me *drool*). For those that dont know it is sold as a story based on a true story of 2 brothers who despite all the odds come together for one to train and the other fight and win the whatever weight title fight of the world. In fact it is a look at the relationships in the family and how one of the brothers drug habit effects everyone. By no menas is it a feel good film and you dont come away from it thinking that the world is a wonderful place and wanting to skip everywhere, but I thought it was really good. The family members were beievable, my mouth dropped at what some of them did/ said and then remembered that they were Americans (broad sweeping generalisation alert) so I was fine with it.

I enjoyed the fighter (didn't think I would as I don't like the concept of boxing) but the story really sucks you in, great acting.

Don't know if it's still on but if you're after the phoaw factor than THor is amazing. So funny with some spectacular special effects. If you watch stay till the end of th ecredits as there's more at the end!

X:Men was fantastic - easily the best film I have seen in a while!

I'm still waiting to see the fighter.

We saw the hangover 2 on the day it came out (we had been waiting forever!) and both loved it. Very simular to the last one, but TBH that what we wanted/were expecting and we laughed all the way through.
