Weight!

*J9*, 7 August, 2013 at 21:24 Posted on Planning 0 29

Aaaaaah I need you all to please give me an internet kick up the backside!

I ordered my dress 2 months ago knowing I wanted to lose a couple of stone before the wedding but have managed to put on nearly a stone!

I've always loved my food and been a little on the greedy side but now I'm having serious nightmares that my dress won't fit and I'll be a super fat bride!

I tell myself every day that I need to start being good but I always end up being bad instead. ☹️

Did anyone of you go through this?

    *Kicks up the back side!!!*

I have lost nearly 4 and half stone in prep for the wedding and my biggest motivation is the fact I did not want to look back at my fat self in my wedding photos for the rest of my life.

You have a the rest of your life to pig out and eat junk so get your ass in gear for the next few months so you don't look back in years to come with regrets!

Just make sure that if you a bad food day it does not turn into a bad food week that turns into a bad food month, simple changes in diet can also make a big difference e.g. switching from butter to low fat spread, switching to skimmed milk in tea etc

    Good luck!

Every day seems to be my last blow out at the moment! I did so well on weight watchers a couple of years ago then stopped going cos I was happy with my weight and it just crept back on. Tried it again earlier this year but just couldn't get back into the swing of it.

I haven't bought my dress yet but I'm still trying to lose weight anyway. I was a size 18 and almost 14 stone - I've been doing exercise 3-4 times a week and having slimfast shakes for lunch (not really following the Slimfast diet completely but this on it's own has made a bit of a difference) and I've lost 11lbs since the end of May. I'm trying to get down to size 12/14 by the time I get married in Sept next year.

You don't need to cut everything out, just start with little things like cutting down on your portion size - if you're anything like me, you can sit a whole tub of Hagen Daaz without thinking about it! Now I just have a few small scoops in a small bowl and save some for later in the week. Makes it last longer too!

How long is it until your wedding? They say you should look to lose 1-2lb a week so set yourself a realistic target and imagine how fantastic you'll feel walking up the aisle in your dress and not having to buy another dress in a bigger size!! Smiley smile

And don't feel bad if you've been a bit naughty, weigh it off with something good and start again tomorrow.

I'm such a greedy person too, love my food & have had a bad couple of weeks.
Back on it now though and still needing to shift 30 odd lbs so need to get my bum in gear.
You can do it if you really try, picture yourself in your dress & fitting into it and how good you'll feel if you're confident in yourself that day Smiley smile
I'm at weight watchers which helps me as i'm getting weighed by someone else so I need that sort of guidance, doing it myself at home I always go off track. You could try some sort of classes like that? Or join a gym and do it with friends or something for help? Stock the fridge with healthy foods and get rid of all junk and have a treat once a week, wont do any harm and should keep the inner greed happy (sometimes with me haha)

Thankfully our fridge is almost bare as we're due a food shop tomorrow.

I want to lose a bit of weight on my own first before I re-join WW. I don't want to go back as I am at the moment! That might sound crazy ?

I've just made myself lunch for tomorrow and I'm going to make sure I stay in the office so I'm not tempted to buy naughty stuff.

I know I can do it as I have before, I just need to find my willpower!

I did WW for a while a couple of years ago and it was great but when I tried this year I couldn't get back into it. hopefully soon as I did the find the weigh-ins a big help. Also I got weighed on a Sat morning so I'd use the rest of the weekend to be naughty and be good for the rest of the week.

I will get there, just need to seriously kick my own butt!

I do Slimming World and I love it, I've lost 4 1/2 stone. The problem is that now I'm so much happier with myself than I was when I started, my motivation has disappeared and I've hardly lost a thing over the past year. Mind you - going along to the weigh in every week has meant that at least I'm still losing (probably only about 1lb a month mind) whereas if I'd stopped going I'd have probably put a couple of stone back on over the last year.

I've just started to change a couple of bad habits at a time and that has started to make a difference. Maybe trying a different diet/eating plan would work as a bit of a kick? I know that I lose the will sometimes when faced with the same food every week! Plus chocolate just tastes so good ?

I loved www.myfitnesspal.com for a number of reasons

    • It's free
    • You can download the free ap so you can do it anywhere
    • There is an online community that support each other, share tips and post inspirational before and after photos
    • You can offset all the exercise you do at the gym against your calories
    • I''ve been on it a year (maintaining really since Xmas rather than losing) and I've never missed out on a meal and drinks with my mates

It worked and my dress fits and I weigh less than I did for most of secondary school. That said I have showed a lot of commitment in the gym.

You can do it - just keep thinking of your dress and how great you'll look in it! I dropped 2 dress sizes just by joining (and actually going to) the gym, I could probably have done it in a shorter timeframe if I could stick to a diet. ? I'm trying to be good now in the run up to the wedding, I have banned all treats from the house - if it's not here I can't eat it (I work from home so it's way too easy to snack).

Exactly the same here, I would have thought that having my wedding as inspiration would have spurred me on to lose weight but instead I have managed to just pig out and put weight on instead. Hoping to turn things around from now on as really don't want to spend the rest of my life looking at my wedding pictures and wishing I'd made more effort to lose weight!

BUT I think it's finally given me the kick I need to be serious about my weight loss!

I'll keep you updated and good luck to everyone else! We can do it!!!

MFP is really good - I used this in the run up to my wedding. Still use it occassionally now, but I have a much healthier relationship with food and exercise now.

I know it sounds scary, but eating less and moving more is what I swear buy. If you'd told me 2 years ago that I would be able to run for an hour continuously, and that I would be doing the Great South Run this year, I'd have laughed. Exercise has now become a part of my life, it's no longer a chore and if I havent exercised, I now make better food choices.

    Start slowly and work up.

Here's another vote for My Fitness Pal!

It really is great. It helps you plan meals and you can link it with exercise tracking apps like run keeper.

I know if I want pudding tonight I best go on a long walk at lunch time to earn the extra calories.

There are a load of groups on there for brides to be so everyone can support each other.

Have a little ticker in your signature saying how much you have lost is a definite kick up the bum!

Hi MrsMain2b, where abouts in Reading are you? I go to Rosemary Conley in Tywford and can't rate it highly enough - I've lost nearly two stone so far. I love my food so am trying to up my exercise levels instead of starving myself.

Well done on turning down MacDonalds as well!

If you need a workout buddy let me know x

I'm in Tilehurst so Twyford is not all that convenient for me. Thanks for the offer of a workout buddy though. It sounds mad but I want to lose some weight before I get into my gym stuff and workout.

I've downloaded My Fitness Pal now too so I'm feeling a lot more positive today that I can do this.

Thank you all for your support x

Yes, I knew I had put on 7lbs, but didn't realise the next few months would see so much stress and drama that i would put on another stone and a bit. I am devastated and some of my pics make me want to cry!!! However, I've only myself to blame Smiley smile

I am another greedy bride to be here! I would be huge if I let myself eat what I want - my appetite scares me sometimes (I blame the pill ? ) Another vote forn My Fitness Pal though, it's GREAT and so convenient. I find just having to document what I eat makes me want to cut down, as it's almost embarrassing reading it back after a pig-out!

Oh it's so nice to know there are other greedy brides! ?

My mum keeps telling me that my dress should be inspiration enough to stop beingh a pig but I've been terrible!

However I've just come back from McDonalds lunch and I only had a fruit smoothie. Major achievement especially as somehow we ended up with a free extra meal!

I'm another fan of Myfitnesspal, does make a difference if you have to record everything you eat. Plus with the exercise logger on there to if you exercise it means you can eat more. I average around 11 hours of exercise a week, but i also can eat easily 3500 calories a day without even thinking about it if i'm not careful! MFP has made me more aware of what i eat!

Godd luck, you will be able to do it, anyone who i know who has got married has said they lost weight without even thinking about it in the lead up to their wedding day due to running around doing last minute things!

Have you thought about trying the 5:2 diet? The basic premise is that you eat normally for 5 days of the week and fast for two non consecutive days each week. On fasting days you should aim to have 500 calories or less. I was skeptical, but thought I would try it, it is perfect for me as I am not great at sticking to diets, but only having to do so 2 days per week is ideal! i did really well on Slimming World last year, but found I eventually lost all motivation and wasn't sticking to it at all, so I have put all the weight back on. I lost 4 lb in my first week with 5:2, and I'm just on my 2nd 'fast' day of week 2 and it seems to still be going well. The first three fast days were tricky, but I've been fine today, so I think it just takes some getting used to. I found loads of recipes and advice online, and I know there are books, but I just don't think I would read one if I bought it! Unlike other diets that I have tried in the past, maintaining this seems quite easy, as once you are at your target weight it is recommended that you 'fast' one day per week to maintain it. Seems easy enough.... watch this space! Smiley smile

I'm another bride here who has been struggling. Bought my dress (ex-sample) in December, knowing that it didn't fit by about 3 inches around the back. Was so determined, and by May was able to do some of the buttons up... And then promptly fell off the wagon. Worst thing is, I have my first fitting for the adjustments next week. Argh! I'm pretty sure I'm back to where I started in December, if not actually a little bit heavier.

Am glad to hear other people feel the same way - every other bride I've encountered has been 100% focused with their diet and exercise. I feel like a failure by comparison.

I lost almost three stone for my wedding and it is very hard at times so I sympathise. However the on,y way you are going to get the weight off is to cut out the crap and up the exercise, if you love your food (like me!) starving and denying yourself is just not sustainable, don't make yourself give up everything you love all at once, just small changes and more exercise! Once you see results this will give you that extra determination.

I got married a couple of months ago now and I can honestly say the hard work was worth it, just keep thinking of your end goal.

good luck and keep us posted with your progress

I feel your pain! I wanted to lose about 2 1/2 stone before my wedding - I've currently managed to lost about 1 1/2 with my wedding in October, so am getting there! The thing that really spurred me on was more so the honeymoon pics in my bikini rather than my wedding day! My main thing also was that my OH took a pic of me in a bikini at my heaviest, and I keep going back to that as my reminder! I've just been eating less, turning down yummy foods offered to me at work, and I don't eat carbs at night(which has been a lot easier than I thought it would be!) we still have 'cheat days' where I eat what I want, but then get back onto it the next day! Have been going to the gym 3 times a week too and I found once I saw my weight going down, it was so much easier to be motivated when you can see the difference!!

I have been on a diet for 2 and a half weeks and lost half a stone, im going to the gym aswell.
I just imagine H2B looking like he's shifting a wardrobe in a wedding dress for our first dance and that gives me plenty of reason not to stop running or lifting ect ect.

I need to lose atleast a stone!

The weekends are the hardest for me Smiley sad, its like oooooh two days off work instantly means 2 days off your diet aswell!!!
I love good food Smiley sad im a really big food snob and love going out to dinner.
I have a BBQ to go to tomorrow and i have to try and eat a normal portion.....not hot dog, burger, chicken and all the salad types! for just the first sitting! Plus adding booze to the situation will only make it more difficult Smiley sad.
I need to show some real self restraint!!!!

Another one here with a load of weight to get off before the wedding, I have lost just over 2 stone started with Simming world, which I would 100% recommend but now I weigh myself on a Sunday morning, I eat only clean and natural food Mon-Sat and I have a cheat meal, whatever we fancy on a Sunday and then straight back on plan. For me this works, I'm also training 5/6 times a week so it does the body good to have a re feed. Would like to lose another 2. Just stay really focused and think to yourself you can never go back and re do your wedding day, you will feel so good knowing you've pushed through and stayed disciplined. Like everyone else has said once the weight comes off you really start to feel mor confident and happy. Best of luck. You can do it.
