When you used go to a shop and ask for a quarter of sweeties - what was it a quarter of?

I cant remember what it was and have wracked my brains - Can anyone help?

    Quarter of a pound ie. 4oz. 2.2lb is 1kg though

    The sweet peanuts I had recently weren't the same. The old ones used to have small peanut pieces, the ones I had were just crunchy bits
