Weight loss.

WickyWack, 29 August, 2014 at 08:22 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 22

Jeez, really wish I hadn't got on the scales this morning!

Seriously shocked at how much I weigh, and how quickly and easily it seems to have gone on!

So, where do I start? Calorie count? I've tried WW before and didn't get on with the new points system..

I'm 5"8 and 13st 4lbs..

I need to be 11st.

I also would appreciate it if someone could come and shout at me every evening and tell me to get of my arse and exercise!

I lost 20lbs between Jan and may and then just somehow lost all motivation. Since then I have been cycling around the same 4lbs and I'm now terrified I'll regain it all. I'm currently 14 stone and would love to be 10, but I'd take 12 at this point. I just can't figure out what happened to make me stop wanting to stick within my calories Smiley sad

I get married in 5 weeks and currently have a spare tyre that sits just below my waste and about 9lbs to lose. Monday to Friday i eat nothing but fat free yogurt, salad, fresh fish, veg, potatoes, cous cous, at the weekend I'm not too bad, i eat out and drink wine but i don't splurge ... yet still I go up a lb, down a lb, up a lb, down a lb. From Monday, I'm going to go crazy in the gym. I'm going to turn in to a woman obsessed. OBSESSED! Starting Monday. Yep.

I tried and tried for my wedding and got down to 11st 7, that was half heartedly eating healthily and doing 3-6 classes a week in the gym.

When I started Slimming World in 2012, I more or less gave up alcohol (no mean feat!) and followed their plan with reasonable ease and the weight fell off. I was over 15 and a half stone before I gave birth (I stopped weighing myself at about 38 weeks) and I'm usually somewhere between 10st 3 and 10st 8 now. I'm 10st 10 at the mo and am trying to shift those extra few lbs but keep eating sweets and biscuits by accident.

So i am a huge advocate of SW because not only did I lose the weight, I've kept it off for over 18 months now.

Before my wedding, my usual weight was 12st 7 - 13st.

    ETA - i don't do any exercise.

I've been struggling for a while now. I was determined not to bother losing weight for the wedding because I felt it was unrealistic and I would be mortified if I didn't manage it and couldn't fit in my dress. But, I need to lose weight to help myself really - while it won't cure the osteoarthritis, putting less strain on my joints will definitely help!

my problem was that I couldn't find a form of exercise that would be ok for my stupid painful joints and that would also help me lose some weight so, thanks to whoever it was recommended it on here, I downloaded the my yoga app and I've been doing some every day since then, plus going for a walk once a week. A week later, I added the my fitness app so I've been able to track my calorie intake and I've nearly lost a stone - slow, but sure which is the best way to do it!!

I have done weightwatchers in the past and slimming world - with ww, I lost 5 stone and then put it all back on and then some more. I couldn't get into slimming world - while I am sure it works for some people, it didn't fit for me.

the trouble with any weightloss programme is that it only works if your brain is with the programme! right now, I'm fine with it and I feel so much better already - it's lovely to have a waist again!! But there is a long way to go, I'm 5'3" and weight 15 stone 9lb. According to bmi charts (which should be banned btw) I ought to be around 8 and a half stone. I'm aiming for 10 which seems more realistic to me but in total that will mean a weightloss of 6 stone 8lb and I'm aware that there will come a time when I just can't be bothered - probably during the winter when our weekly walk won't seem quite as appealing and all the comfort foods like stew with dumplings and suet puddings start to creep back in.

the weather can definitely have an effect on your mood and dietary habits, it's been quite miserable lately - maybe that's the problem?

ID - I know you're on myfitness, and I'm happy to give encouragement if needed. Same goes for all who want to join me there xxx

All I can suggest is that you need to make some form of exercise a habit. They say do something 27 times and it becomes a habit, so if you want to exercise, do 10/20 minutes a day for 27 times and then it'll become habit and you'll just keep doing it. Even if it's running up and down your stairs 50 times, do it every day and then increase it to a run round the block, or a jog round a lake etc.

I exercise 2-3 times a week, but it tends to be for about 40 minutes a time. I am by no means skinny, but I lost 3 stone for my wedding, and the most I've ever put on since then is 7lbs.

Also, there's nothing wrong with having a takeaway/booze fest, if that's what you want to do. But I ensure I go for a run that/the next morning, so I burn off at least some of it!

I am a huge advocate of myfitnesspal. As long as you are completely honest with what you log, it really does teach you where your bad habits are. I've learnt loads by doing it and agree with Flora that you should be weighing out things like pasta and rice, you'll be surprised how many calories are in a portion. Diet is more important than the exercise - exercise simply means that you can eat a little bit more. I really love food so I exercise regularly - I pole dance once a week, lift weights twice a week, and have between one to two cardio sessions per week, whether that's pounding the pavements or treadmill. I tried a slimming plan once but once I came off of it the weight crept back on - I find it far easier to log everything, but different things work for different people. Best of luck :-)

I went from 10st 13lb to 9st 5lb in about 4 months just by calorie counting, nothing more. I then got measured for my dress and bought it. Maintained that weight perfectly. Now after 4 days of constant stress about my poorly rat I am 8st 12lb. My dress isn't going to fit ?

From my own personal experience, dieting is not for the long term.

I've been on diets in the past and yes, I might lose weight but after I stop dieting I out on the weight SO quickly as well as putting more on than in the first place.

IMO I think it's better to think about eating healthily and making sure things such as fat or carb intake is in moderation. Then you'll be more likely to lose weight and keep it off.

I've put on a stone since my wedding and I'm sure it's because I practically survived on dust before the big day!!! Now I just want to eat healthily and be in it for the long term.

I have ranted at length about my now 'overweight' bmi. I have put on two sizes since January.

My method for resolving this- only eating cucumber.

Mini. I assume you're only eating cucumber from a slimline G&T?

I managed to be only carrying about half a stone of baby weight but somehow in the last 2 months I upped that to just over a stone. Daily cake/biscuits and starting my day with At LEAST 2 pieces of shitty white bread toast are partly responsible.

I'm hoping the small changes approach will help. No more toast, no OJ at breakfast, only drinking water and occasional other drink, no alcohol, snacking on fruit etc. We eat out a lot and have takeaways where I tend to over-eat, so if we do those, I'm just having less. So far it's been nearly 2 weeks and it's going ok. A few lb down. Which considering in that time ive been to McDonald's, had a curry and a Chinese takeaway is pretty good. I'm thinking better to chip away than to either add to of to it!

I realise I posted the OT a while back but I just thought I'd update my progress..

I hadn't really concentrated on my weight loss efforts until the last couple of weeks, been putting off and using "life" as an excuse!! trying to eat better and logging things on myfittnesspal. I also started exercising again, last night I went to a step class and tonight I'm going to a pilates beginner class. I aim to do at least 2 x 30min walks after work as well this week. The scales say I've lost 2lbs in about 10 days which I suppose is a good start.

So here's to that continued motivation and success! Only 34lbs to go!! ?

Are they not supremely uncomfortable though? A few years ago I went to a wedding (ironically I was much slimmer then than now) and my mother insisted my stomach looked terrible in my dress and made me buy a pair. They were so uncomfortable that after the ceremony I immediately went into the toilets and took them off. Never worn them since.

A good decent pair are comfy. Like a tight swimming suit!? It's not like a corset, just smooths over your lumps and bumps. I had a cheap pair once when I had to rush buy some when a dress I was wearing wasn't very flattering around the middle, they ended up in the bin in the ladies on that particular night out - had to be very careful for the rest of that night!

I'm not one for diets...have been there, done that, had the eating disorder, and I am pleased to say that I now lead a reasonably (certainly relatively) healthy lifestyle in terms of food and exercise. In the past, I have been able to manipulate any diet plan, but I won't go into that here! Needless to say, I'm just in need of making sure calories in and calories out are not heading in the wrong direction, by eating properly, and exercising (which thankfully I love doing).

I'm not sure what I weigh, having ditched the scales as part of the healthy approach (was on them 3 times a day beforehand) but I do know how my clothes fit, and how my wobbly bits wobble! I'm reasonably ok, as things are....but my wedding dress is certainly not one that is going to be forgiving, and I have my boudoir shoot booked in for the beginning of April, so I really need to "actively maintain" the weight, and continue firming up the wobbly bits.

I've signed up this morning to myfitnesspal following recommendations on here, and for me I think it will help just keep things in balance - I am more than capable of justifying several 100g bars of chocolate just because I walked to work rather than brought the car....so need that little eye kept on me without it being a bloody great big stick being waved at me!

Well I am now on my way to my goal. Cutting out the cake and just being more sensible is working. I've got maybe 6lbish to go now. So just over half way. It's utterly boring and slow though. I think it's worse when you only want to lose a stone or so because it's really a slow process of a little here and there. Still, I can now actually put a shirt on and do up the buttons over the chest.

just hoping I can lose a few lbs without having it actually do 'proper' excercise.
