Weight watchers and bf'ing

laughing_girl, 12 February, 2009 at 11:29 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 3

Is anyone doing weight watchers and breastfeeding?

Im struggling to eat my points and find the right kind of foods that will make my points and keep my milk supply up. I obviously dont want to drink wine or eat (much) choc to do so would rather bulk it out with my meals. Does anyone know of any foods that will keep my milk up and use points. The HV said as long as I had a carb with each meal it should be ok but I still have points left.

Also, if I have an excessive amount of points left will this affect my supply first or make me lose weight first. Wen I had my first child he didnt put on much weight when I started dieting so I need to do it properly this time

Can't say about your supply but re increasing the points without snacking:

Try more pointed veg with dinner (potatoes, peas, sweetcorn)

Try eating more fruit, if you eat a lot already, try making a fruit smoothie, as you will have the milk points as well

Try using full fat cheese, yoghurt, instead of low fat

Do you mean you can't eat enough to eat all your points? I don't understand how you put on weight in the first place, if you don't mind me saying. That sounds odd written down, it's not meant to! I am doing WW and finding it very hard as there is soo little food compared to what I normally eat, and the weight is falling off me.

Sorry I am no use on the breastfeeding business as I've no kids!

Try oats. A 50g bowl of oats with semi-skimmed milk is 5 points, so you could use more points by using full fat milk and the oats are fab for your milk supply. I eat them most mornings.

Oats are good for milk supply.

Other than that, A well-balanced nutricious diet should not affect your milk in any way.

I am breastfeeding exclusively and only eat my normal points allowance in a day, very rarely do I go over into breastfeeding points. I just don't need them. I eat to my appetite and no more. You don't have to eat your points if you don't feel the need to.
