Weight Watchers or Slimming World?

Kat44, 19 September, 2010 at 18:59 Posted on Planning 0 7

I need to seriously start a proper weight loss plan because just trying to watch what I eat myself and exercising more doesn't help at all. My weight has stayed exactly the same (up a lb, down a lb) for the past year.

I am getting married Aug 27th next year and ideally would like to lose at least 3 and a half stone. I currently weigh 13st 12lb and would love to get down to as close to 10st as possible.

I also have polyscystic ovaries and am intolerant to wheat which makes it harder for weight to stay off.

I can't decide between following the Weight Watchers plan or Slimming World? I don't like going to group meetings so would prefer to do it online.

Does anyone have any advice on which plan would be better please or your experiences of either? How do each of them work? (never done slimming programmes before!)

TIA for any help ?

I totally recommend slimming world. i joined just over 3 weeks ago and have already lost half a stone, on the extra easy plan. i did the ww points system years ago and lost 4 stone but i was always starving and the weight crept back on. with slimming world u can have huge portions as long as theyre free or superfree foods, i cant believe the amount i have in a day , pasta potatoes rice all meats fruit n veg etc.....if u fancy a treat u can save ur syns, u get ten per day.....and have them at the weekend. i was very sceptical initally but my aunt persuaded me to join and im so glad i did! Go for it!

I just signed up for WeightWatchers Online today coincidentally. I can't say I have any personal experience of either, as I've never done an 'official' weight loss plan, but I've heard good things about WW and they have an offer at the moment, where the first 3 months is £38 because they've waived most of the sign up fee.

I lost 17 pounds on my own, but I have to admit defeat in trying to lose the next 17 pounds - I've just got stuck! I'm hopeful this will help though.

From what I've seen of the WW site tonight - it's very big but they guide you through how to use all the tools, I'm just working my way through it all now.

Let us know what you choose - and all the best of luck with your weight loss goals Smiley smile

I would recommend ww as I found slimming world far to strict in the types of food and found that I was eating way too much of the 'correct' foods and ended up putting weight on. WW has helped me to think about the foods I am eating and making the most of my points and saving up if I do want that Pizza hut treat etc. To be honest whatever you choose add some exercise and do not deprive yourself of anything-life is too short! Good luck x

I have tried both. I think I find Slimming World groups a bit mroe friendly and fun than WW.

However I think both work is you stick to them, WW is more strict on amounts and SW is strict on what foods you should eat but not quantity.

I just find the weighing process is the thing that works - queing, waiting and then the FEAR of what the scales will say!!

    Hey Date Twin!!

Having done both WW and SW I recommend SW. I am currently doing it and have lost 1.5 stone so far :-)

I prefer SW because I can eat as much (of certain foods) as I want, so I'm never hungry. I was hungry on WW and it pee'd me off that I had to "point" fruit and veg.

My class is great and I've made a few friends that I look forward to seeing each week.

HTH, any questions let me know?!

I would definately recommend WW. I lost just over 6 stone in a year and still maintaining now.

I've never followed anything else but my cousin lost weight with SW so they both work. You really just have to be in the mindset to do it and I would definately go along to a class as the encouragement from other members and the dreaded weigh in really keeps you going.

Good Luck on your journey as I know how tough it can be. x

I lost 2 and a half stone on SW going to a group, but am currently giving WW a go. I found with SW that the first stone came off really quickly but my weight loss eventually came to a complete stand still and I was getting a bit bored with the plan, which is why I decided to do WW instead. I am just doing it online and have lost 4lb in just under a fortnight. I'm finding that theres a lot more treats you can have on WW as they have so many products in the shops like cakes and biscuits for just a point each, which suits me as I prefer to have treats little and often rather than saving up for a big blow out. Also with SW I was doing all my cooking from scratch which is great if you have time, but I quite often work late so its much easier for me to just stick a WW meal in the microwave and do some salad to go with it.

In my experience both plans work so I would just have a good look at both websites, read about the plans and see which you think would suit you best.
