Weird taste in my mouth

Pompey, 18 November, 2014 at 09:24 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

Hey ladies and Funky, I'm hoping one of you medical types can help.

I've been poorly over the last couple of weeks with a bacterial throat infection and horrible fever. Anyway, seen my doc who prescribed some anti-biotics which have been amazing. Only problem is, I have had a horrible, bile like taste in my mouth. Doctor suggests that this is from the throat sores (TMI maybe). I don't know if it is and it only seems to be getting worse.

I have checked the side effects of the antibiotics and it's not that.

Any ideas? It's gross.

Being a non-medical type, my first thought was that it's the infection coming out of your throat ... but then what do I know?

Sounds like tonsilitis which I get on a fairly frequent basis and is now known by many doctors as a throat infection!! I always get the vile taste so it sounds to me as if your doctor is right. In which case it will go once the infection clears x

As an alternative to the throat infection theory - it could be acid reflux? If you have been taking antibiotics you will have upset your bacteria balance in your tummy. I get acid reflux a lot and don't always get heartburn/pain with it - sometimes I just get 'the taste'. Take a probiotic to balance out your bacteria again and also try sucking on Gaviscon. The mint ones should help with the taste anyway.

I didn't even consider reflux Cinnamon. It's worse in the mornings so it could be that.

Sounds like reflux to me, I had the same after glandular fever and kept going back to the doctors to be told it was just the infection. I had such bad reflux it had scarred the back of my throat. You just need to get him to give you some anti reflux tablets and it will be fine Smiley smile

I was also gonna say acid reflux. My dad has it so badly that he used to wake my mum up during the night coughing cos acid was rising to his throat. He now sleeps on a big foam wedge to stop it happening Smiley smile Thankfully I don't have it that badly, but I do get it occasionally and I get a horrible bile-like taste in my mouth. As already mentioned Gaviscon might help, or failing that a course of omeprazole from the docs.

My theory is the infection in your throat or the anti-biopics. Anti-biotics really don't agree with me, leaving me feeling queasy and with a weird taste in my mouth for weeks after l have finished taking them
