welcome drink - what to have?

narie, 3 July, 2011 at 21:00 Posted on Planning 0 16

Hi Ladies

Just wondering what everyone is having/has had for their welcome drink? My wedding is in October so I am not sure pimms would go down well then... our caterer suggested Kir Royal which is a blackcurrenty liqour mixed with champagne or sparkling wine. Not sure how to get the fone back to normal!

I love kir royale so am probably a bit biased. I'm having it as one of a few options for reception drinks as well as belinnis and plain champagne.

Our wedding is in June and hopefully it will be a sunny day so we will do bottles of beer for the guys, sparkling water, and champagne/bucks fizz. Kir Royale sounds lovely to me!

We're a September wedding, and as we aren't providing alcohol by choice at our wedding (although there is a bar if people want it) we are having a fruit punch which is orange juice and lemonade, with bits of fruit in it, and some kind of red syrup and coloured sugar round the rim.

That'll be given out to everyone as we file out from the ceremony/blessing into the garden.

We had Martini Asti which went down really well.

    I'd enjoy Kir Royale though!

I don't know if you're having any children at your wedding but don't forget a non-alcoholic option for the kids, the drivers and those that just choose not to drink.

I've often gone without at weddings because people forget that not everyone drinks alcohol.

Were there not any cash bars, AJ? Where the guests who wanted something different to that provided by the host could purchase their own drinks? What's good for the goose....

And to the OP - Kir Royale sounds lovely.

Thank you for the replies - we will have orange juice for the children and people who would prefer. I like the idea of Kir Royale - just not sure what champagne to buy to go with it... trying to keep costs low - we are providing wine for breakfast and toast and the bar will be open for people who would prefer something different.

You could alwys have cava instead of champagne that would bring the cost down a bit.

After our wedding ceremony we had bucks fizz served, orange juice (for the drivers and kids) plus tea and coffee was available. When everyone arrived at the reception venue they did us a champagne punch for the arrival drink which was absolutely gorgeous, it had real fruit peices in in too Smiley smile

We had a New Zealand Sparkling for the reception, and Prosecco for the Toasts, we also provided lots of orange juice/soft drinks for the non-drinkers,

We had a mix of pimms and bucks fizz, with a couple of jugs of juice.

Those that wanted anything else (other non-alocholic drinks or beer for example) bought their own from the bar.

I would have loved Kir Royal but the venue charged an extra £2 per head for it!

We're October and are having Kir Royale or Bucks fizz, with a fruity option for the non drinkers. WE're providing our own sparkling zinfandel for the toasts along with sparkling applejuice with strawberry from Belgium (Kiddibul)

We're getting married in September and having Pimms as my dad has now said he'll pay for it! We were having Bucks Fizz as it's a bit cheaper

Kir Royale sounds a good choice
