Welcome to Wedding Planning! ?

We have pulled together a few little handy hints and tips for this forum, there are a few traditions that we have going that would be lovely to carry on...

Introductions

Don’t be shy! Add a new thread introducing yourself to the group; this forum is only as good as the people in it so speak up! We don’t bite!

Good Luck Threads

There are no hard and fast rules but these are usually started by a date twin or someone friendly with the bride or groom to be in the 2-3 weeks leading up to the wedding. If you are not sure who is coming up there is a next 700 weddings list here on Hitched.

https://www.hitched.co.uk/weddings/next30.asp?whichpage=7&pagesize=50&print=y

Your good luck thread shouldn’t be read until you are ready to sign off before your wedding – if you peek early you will get spots!

Abbreviations

Sometimes the threads can be a little hard to decipher at first... here are a few of the most commonly used abbreviations in WP (Wedding Planning)

AIBU - Am I Being Unreasonable

BM - Best man or Bridesmaid

CBM - Chief Bridesmaid

Your wedding plane is excellent but i provide some idea for wedding. First of all we choose the wedding places which should be attractive and have best honeymoon places. I like Brazzaville which is situated in Congo. It is very attractive place for wedding. If you need cheap flights to Brazzaville then visit to http://www.dearflight.co.uk/cheap-flights-to-congo/brazzaville-bzv.aspx

Not sure on type as yet, was looking at A line, but not sure. Also i am quite big on top, so not sure if i would need straps or a halter, or will strapless hold me ok?

Have a few friends with big tops that recently got married and they were wearing strapless! you need to try them on and see though cause u might not be comfortable! if you prefer a line then focus on them so you get confused and go crazy with dfferent styles etc. if you do see a dress that wows you then try on even if it is not a line! I started with plain a lines and ended up with a sparkly princess style. as soon as I saw it I knew it would be the one! one last thing: you won't necessarily find your dream dress on the first day, so if u don't see anything you like don't get disappointed! Be patient! It took me 4 months to find mine lol! find a few that really stand out and try them on! if you like them on you, then move on to others! hope that helped! I'm here if you need anything else! let me know how monday goes

It went well. Thought i found it in the shop on Monday, but it was only my 3rd dress. So i had a look around, and i have found my perfect dress. I am glad i didn't rush into anything.

I did suit a A-line better than anything else, have been told i won't need straps. I am excited now.

A- lines are the easiest of dresses to choose! They suit most people! Well done for the choice! lol Glad you found your dream dress! Flash us with some pics if you can please! It will be exciting to see!!!!! :-) Are the venues booked or still looking?

Venue all booked, having the whole day in a Hotel - Holiday Inn in Southampton Hampshire.

I will try and get a pic, but as it is being customised, as i am having a splash of my colour - Light blue in it, may have to wait 6mths until i see it myself. lol

    Hi everyone!

I'm getting married next September and it's a low key, homemade affair. We're having a marquee in a field and the church is 25 minutes away. We're not having a 3-course plated meal as such, but rather a harvest ploughman's with cold meats, potatoes, salad/veg etc being served on platters at the tables. We're planning to have a cheese course before which we need to cut the cheese (we're having a tiered 'cheese' cake rather than traditional sweet cake). There will then be sweet puddings and coffee etc.

My problem is with timings - I don't know anyone who has done a wedding like this and I'd love some input on probable timings please! Here is my rough outline so far:

    12pm church service

    12:30 finish

    12:30 - 1:30 photos @ church (v.small church + 100 guests)

    1:30 - 2pm travel to venue

    2 - 2:30 arriving @ venue / reception drink and sitting down

    2:30 lunch served

    3:30 cut cheese, cheese served

    4pm puddings / coffee + speeches

    6pm evening guests arrive

    8pm hog roast

    9-12 music + party

I'd love some input on whether and when you think I've left enough / too little time and what you suggest - I did think about bringing the service forward as departure/travel/arrival time for 100 people (approx. 45 cars) is probably going to look more like an hour than 30 mins.

All suggestions OH SO gratefully received!

    xxxxxxxxxx

I'm a newby but I think your timings look mostly ok.

An hour for photos is more than enough, and I wouldn't make it any longer. But the logistics of moving people from the church to the reception will always take longer than you think. Don't ask me why, it just does. So I would suggest allowing 45 minutes between arriving at the reception and sitting down for lunch - people will also just want to catch their breath and have a drink, particularly if they've been hanging around at the church for over an hour whilst you did the photos. (The most boring part of the day for guests).

Regarding the pig roast - just make sure the caterers get it cooking in good time. I've been to events where the pork was massively underdone and inedible because they didn't get it going early enough! But it's a brilliant idea for the evening bit, a bit fun and a bit relaxed after the formalities.

Are you having music and dancing from 6-9pm? Sorry, it's not clear what you're doing with your guests in that bit.

    But it all sounds brilliant!

Hello! Timings sound ok, I agree with LuluJam about tranfer timings. Over calculate, just in case (traffic etc). The only thing I have to say about the photography part of it is....well for me 1 our was not enough. WE had our wedding ceremony at 8pm(evening). It took an hour so we got out of the church at 9.....we arrived at the reception venue at 11, and the food was ready just on time as we had clculated times for photography(we asked the photographer to give us an idea). We greeted all our guests after the ceremony and then we had photos with all of them, friends, parents, bridesmaids, grooms men etc etc. Then everyone got in the coaches we had to get tranfered to the reception but my husband and I had to stay for our photoshoot, as the photographer took us out on our own to take photos (with different posing etc). It depends on the package you choose and the photographer and how many of them will be (we had 2 photographers and a camera man, thats the service our photographer provided). The advice I got from them was DO NOT RUSH, enjoy the time you have alone together cause the rest of the night everyone will be grabbing you and dragging you alone, so the photoshooting was one of the best experiences, they were absolutely right! It was the only time we got to spend on our own as a newly married couple lol. Choose the package you want and then ask the photographer to give you a rough idea how long it would take etc. DO NOT RUSH for anything, be chilled and relaxed on your day so just allow time. :-) It all sounds great and different! :-) Good luck!

Hi everyone, new on this website, looks like there is some great stuff happening on here!

I'm an Australian, engaged to an Englishman, and we live in Melbourne, Australia.

we are just starting to think about the big day, which we are thinking of May/June 2014. No ideas on location yet, but possibly somewhere in England, or maybe France (some beautiful locations!)and hopefully some of my family and friends will be able to travel from Australia. I love the idea of an old stately home or something like that.

Looking forward to sharing ideas and thoughts with all of you!
