Well this is concerning! - Updated!

spacebabe103, 3 September, 2011 at 16:41 Posted on Planning 0 5

My wedding plans have been going swimmingly with minor hiccups. Today, we have 7 weeks to go and I have been busy preparing paperwork and emailing our suppliers.

We have booked an ice cream machine, this was to be brought to the venue by the supplier at 7pm and we were going to serve it as dessert with cupcakes. I have just googled the company to find some contact details and found the business for sale on ebay! I am sure it's them and they state in their listing it's a lucrative business and they have 2 weddings booked next month. It also says the guy had a heart attack so can't do it any more. Urm, shouldn't they have told us?! After all we are one of their two weddings!

Presumbably they had a back up plan and it appears the listing ended with no bids.

So, I have emailed them to see what's happening. I'm hoping everything is going to be ok as this was one of the main attractions! Plus we have paid out a £70 deposit.

Anyway I'm not really expecting any replies, just wanted to write this down and help myself!

Don't panic! The most likely explanation is that the guy who runs it is selling it because he is no longer fit enough to do it full-time, but that probably doesn't stop him fulfilling his obligation to his last two weddings - it could just be that once he's finished his current bookings, he'll hand it all over to someone else.

Plus I would think even if they do come back and say they're handing over to someone else before your wedding, you could rightfully demand your deposit back.

Yeh I agree, businesses change hands all the time but their bookings are still honoured and often people are none the wiser. I wouldn't panic, although would be good to get a reply and just check it out for your own piece of mind

    Hi everyone,

Well, I emailed last Saturday and we have tried calling and have had no response. The ebay seller who was selling the business has since listed other items so they are actively online. I have just sent another email. We have their address so I guess the next option is to write?

The wedding is 6 weeks today and I don't really know what to do now. There are some other suppliers who do something similiar in the area - I'm not sure whether I should contact them just in case we need someone else?

    What a pain!

Are they local? If so, even within 100miles at 6 weeks to go i'd be going to pay a visit.

If not, or even in addition to, i'd probably get a letter sent recorded delivery - but either way the sooner you can get in touch the better incase you need to make alternative arrangements.

Another idea is to try to contact them through the add on ebay using the ask the seller a question link.
