Went to a reception at our venue at the weekend.....

Bobbins30, 19 July, 2010 at 15:39 Posted on Planning 0 10

So we went to our venue for an evening wedding reception on Saturday and were impressed overall - OH hadnt seen it until Saturday and he loves it.

The only problem, was that when we went to the bar, we were charged a different price each time (once £2 more per drink!). Each time we asked why and the bartender just said 'oh you must have been charged incorrectly last time, this is the correct price'. Grrr. Also the barmen and women were busy having a chat rather than serving people and at one point the girl who was serving said 'what the f*** is up with this malibu pump', wasnt very impressed even more so as a malibu and coke cost me £5 that time!!

So, my question is, would you bring this up with the wedding co-ordinator or just put the pricing down to human error and say nothing?

I'd definately speak to your wedding co-ordinator about it. No one likes recieving complaints, but without them you can't improve or put things right x

I would send them an email, highlighting the good points and then saying you noticed a few things that you were unhappy about and just wanted to make sure that the management were aware and hope they are improved upon for your wedding

I'd definately be saying something and also asking for a copy of the bar pricing list tbh

You could ask your friend to communicate the problem following her reception?

My understanding is that any licensed place must display their prices by the bar and only charge as stated. If they are in a habit of varying their prices on whim, I am sure the trading standards office would love to hear about it.

Do ask for an explanation in your email (don't bother asking on the phone -as with emails you will have record of it).

I agree with whoever (sorry, that's rude!) said you should say "I had a few concerns about...." . and like Raef said, ask for a copy of the price list.

Don't mention it to the bride/groom of the wedding you went to though, they may not have noticed, and it would be horrible for them to be upset by something.

I agree - tell the hotel, bout the conduct of the staff and the pricing.

Ditto to all! It may be that they are completely unaware of these problems and you mentioning it would sort it out.

Thanks all, am going to send them an email. I dont want the bride and groom to know as I really dont want them to worry that people were annoyed and it may put a dampener on their memories. Think I'll email the hotel and let them know but ask them not to feed it back to the bride and groom. Plus side though, the room looked fantastic and the food was delicious and plenty of it so overall a big thumbs up! Getting excited now!
