We're getting a Yacht!

lannie*, 10 June, 2008 at 10:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 228

A friend of ours owns several yachts that he charters in the British Virgin Islands. Anyways, he is selling one and we have agreed to buy it.

I have never seen it but H has and apparently its beautiful. Its a Sunseeker 90 and we are going to base it in Cyprus where we will charter it via a local company. How exciting!

Can you imagine! A hitched launch party on a Yacht, I am sure it would create some kind of international incident ?

Its been in the pipeline for absolutely ages and TBH, I lost interest in it a while back but finally it looks like its going to happen.

Yes, you're right. You should invite only a select few in that case, Lannie. ?

The boat will be based out of Paphos but can be chartered for collection at any port apparently.

    Hi,

Congratulations! I'm very envious. I'm sure your friend has all the details and it's covered, but having just spent 5 years in the BVI I have quite a few contacts for people who do deliveries. Many of them use deliveries as their tickets back to the UK for the summer (Hurricane break), so it's usually a cheap deal. The now editor of the BVI Yacht Guide (www.bviyachtguide.com - it used to be me) is one of them.

Or will you put it on the ship?

Let me know if I can help,

    Lu

Keef, lets just say that I'm very embarrassed as I thought maybe yachts cost a few hundred thousand.

I've just looked at a picture of the one Lannie mentioned and it had a price on it.

I need to add a nought?

But I don't mind clubbing togther with you if you fancy one.I've got some loose change down the back of the sofa for a start.

I was thinking '"ooooh, freaky coincidences all round here" because my friend G is selling a yacht just now and his charter fleet are currently based in.... BVI, Cyprus and Marmaris. However, his are sailing yachts, Moodys I think.

I do love sunseekers, you flash buggers! My folks had a fairline which they kept in Scotland- they sold it because they didn't think they used it pften enough, but my dad has started buying boating mags again and muttering on about getting a princess and putting it out in mallorca (I am pushing for symi!)

Anyway, my friend G is an expert in relocation logisitcs, so let me know if you need me to pick his brain. Insurance is going to be your most important investment, followed by a decent charter manager.

Thanks Lu and Lou. This has been ongoing for about a year and one of the major stumbling blocks was the insurance, mooring fees and finding the right charter manager. Although its not a done deal as yet pretty much everything is now in place. The current owner is going to do the relocation for us, it was part of the deal as far as we were concerned.

TBH, if it wasn't this particular seller, then we would never had gone for it in the first place, it will be a business for us though with very little personal use (although I am sure that I might force myself to use it once or twice, you know, just to check it out).

I knew this sort of comment would come and it saddens me deeply. This is the exact sort of thing that makes me not want to use Hitched anymore.

Well I'm sure the Yorkshire Coastliner is more comfortable than a yacht anyway.

Wow - although I can't see mentally a sunseeker as a yacht. I'm a wooden boat fan - made even more so after a trip on the boat that BIL captains:

    http://www.rnryachts.com/ShamrockV.html

    Now that's a yacht!

I hope you get to play on the boat - there's nothing quite like it ?

Lannie, you do seem to post a lot about things you're buying / have bought - links to £1,000,000 houses, posts discussing electric gates for your house, the number of cars you own, the plasma screen in your kids playroom, how comfortably off you and your husband are... I just find it a bit unecessary really. There's plenty of wealthy people on Hitched who don't feel the need to tell everyone about it.

The comment "very much more than the highest figure" can't be taken as anything but crass. If you didn't want to tell us all how rich you are, you could have just said "I'm not telling you how much it costs"

So - apologies if it makes you want to leave Hitched (that seems a touch over the top) but I'm quite bored of hearing about how much money you've got.

I don't think it does at all. We all have different incomes- if noone could ever mention anything they were doing for fear of appearing to boast, Hitched would be even quieter than it already is. The fact it's a yacht (rather than something cheaper) is neither here nor there- people post about having a new car or even a new jumper when there are bound to be others reading thinking, "I can't afford that". Lannie's obviously excited- why shouldn't she share that?

    How fantastic, Lannie ?
