West Midlands Venue help - URGENT PLEASE

liz.g83, 26 October, 2010 at 11:19 Posted on Planning 0 26

Hello,

We're looking for a quite unusual venue in the west midlands for our reception. Neither of us want a hotel or anything that is designed as a weddiing venue. I know everyone wants something unique but it's really difficult to find anything.

We were looking at barns but even these are all fixed up now and modern. Nothing seems to have been left in its lovely rustic state. I get the feeling the owners have seen the potential of hiring for weddings and in an effort to get more custom have fixed them all up. Only thing is they dont have any character anymore.

Please can any one help??

The west midlands is a huge area but we found:

The Barns, which I loved and is very "authenitc" but was fully booked on my date: https://www.thebarnshotel.co.uk/ << This is a restaurant with a hotel attached.

We chose a golf club with a Glass roof - The Chase

There is Cannock chase if your looking for somewhere "different"

    Thanks,

my OH has a passionate dislike for golfers and golf so thought The Chase would not be a god idea.

The place on Cannock is little too far from the church as well.

This is so frustrating. We have found an old abbey with some ruins but not sure if they hire it out. Waiting to hear from them. It's also on a working farm so not sure if I like the idea.

    Where roughly are you?

Not sure if it's what your looking for but Wolves football club was an option for us.

And no - avoid the golf club if OH hates golfers haha. Smiley smile

Roughly in the birmingham/black country area.

not counting out the lovely more country side surrounding areas though. Really do not want to have the reception in the City

Hmm... thats a tricky one then.... I think my OH would love the safari park!

When you say different - do you mean rural? Crazy? Outside? Countryside?

You could consider a canal boat for example if you wanted to be mad, an ice rink?

I'm going to a wedding there next year-the reception is being held in Harringtons restaurant over the road, but the castle have links with a couple of other places too. It's going to be beautiful!

OMG!! Are you really getting married there? You lucky thing.

I LOVE Coombe Abbey. Grew up in village just up the road and used to walk there every weekend through the woods, we still go every now and then for a walk or bbq.

Friends of mine got married there about 4 years ago and it's soooooo lovely.

Are you local to it then?

It really is lovely. I've been to a medieval banquet there and it was good fun!

The Abbeygate is so lovely and old. I would've loved to have got married there but it was slightly out of our league, price wise, you are lucky, will be a beautiful wedding!

We're getting married in a lovely Victorian gothic house/hotel though and adore it!

We can see Coombe Abbey from my old bedroom in my mums house, literally 20 mins walk, 7 mins drive away!!

Just noticed you get married the day after I do as well!

This is ours (though they strangely don't have many photos of it on their website! It's much lovelier IRL!!)

How funny, Coombe would've been too big for us lol, I have 40 odd family members, H2B has 6 so we'd have been filling spaces for the sake of it, but we fit in lovely at Brownsover lol!!

We both have stunning venues IMO! lol!

Sorry-Kenilworth Castle. I thought I'd quoted Kat's message in my reply. Hopefully I've quoted this one right.
