It's on Long Island, New York. My uncle and aunt live in a village in Nassau County.

I've always said that I see Long Island as being the best place in the world to live, because (on the whole) you get idyllic rural living, but is part of the NY Rail Link so people can work in NYC and get there fairly easily (especially if they live on the west of Long Island).

The water you can see is Long Beach Sound, which is an estuary of the Atlantic Ocean.

Edited to add: And yes, what you can just about make out in the distance, is NYC. My uncle and aunt live on the west side of Long Island, on a point that faces NYC.
