What are the post boxes for?

kirstycat, 20 October, 2010 at 20:41 Posted on Planning 0 14

I've seen a few people flashing post boxes on here but I've never seen one at a wedding. What are they for?

(Hangs her head in shame at her own lack of wedding know-how ?)

I've only recently discovered Post Boxes through my constant internet trawling for wedding ideas and I absolutely love them, so am seriously considering having one for our wedding. Some of them look so per-witty too.

Also if you have disposable cameras on the tables, it is somewhere for guests to put them when they have used up the film!

I like the idea of them!

I've only ever seen one. The bride and groom asked for US$ instead of gifts and so their postbox was decorated with all the placed in the US they hoped to visit with the cash. I think it worked well and avoided the awkward "where do i put the card" situation.

And it's easier to pack up at the end of the night! haha.

I'm going to use mine as a wedding keepsake box after the wedding too, so it won't be wasted.

We're going to have a little battered old suitcase and string the word 'CARDS' up in little pegs.

    I love the case idea!

I guess the point of a closed box is that it's harder for someone to whip away one or two cards IYSWIM? I've heard loads of horror stories about cards being stolen as they often will have cash or cheques in.

Thats awful! I am assuming the people taking them wasn't invited to the wedding? That really wouldn't be cool!

Urgh, you'd hope not but I guess you never know! Could be staff too I suppose.

I've been hanging around here for too long to know this ?

They are for your guests to place their cards into, as opposed to just laying them on the table. The nice thing is you can get really creative with them!

I love the idea of the postbox but had only seen them online from pictures of weddings in America. Think it is starting to become more popular over here now though I've seen them at a few weddings this year whereas last year I didn't see one!!

We are having a tiffany themed wedding so ours will look like a big tiffany jewellery box like this:

or like the one on this mood board:
