What are the rules for booking the registrar in your area?

BumbleBrat, 8 October, 2010 at 17:24 Posted on Planning 0 3

If we want to book ours more than 12 months in advance you have to pay £50, I was going to do this and asked if the £50 was taken off the final bill, they said no, it's extra. So I figured I'd wait until exactly a year to the day and phone up first thing to book the registrar. I only have about 6ish weeks until I can book it but now I'm worrying a bit that there wont be a registrar booked up.. I could spend an extra £50 on lots more goodies though.. Hmm dilemma!

Is it the same in all areas? This is for Shropshire btw.

I couldn't book any earlier no matter what i paid. So i like you was counting down the days. When i did phone the woman laughed at me for being so eager, rather that than not get the day i want.

I booked in February for our December wedding and we had to pay £25 to reserve our date and time.

We then had I think 2 months to go and give notice at our local registry office. We then had to pay £270 2 months before the wedding date which is the registrars fee to come to the hotel and perform the ceremony.

I thought the £25 might be deducted from our final amount but no such luck so basically they made £25 out of us for doing nothing but put a date in a diary!

    How much?? that's outrageous!

i booked in Jan to hold our date for Aug 2011, no extra fees at all. Provided we give notice before the end of October this year the date's all ours. We have an appt on 19th Oct to to pay our £60 fees and formally give notice! Both times that I've spoken to the Registry staff though, they've been very helpful.

Mind saying that, because we're getting married on a Sundy and they're visiting us, our total fees are almost £400, so it's not cheap!

BTW, this is Lincoln Registry Office, so I guess it all differs depending where you live.

We had to pay £50 to secure the time and date we wanted (and only got that cause she jigged something about!). Booked it a few months ago.

Got to pay another £38 each when we give our notice of intent and then we have to pay the remaining £390 ish sometime next year.

not cheap just for a half hour service!!
