What are you doing with your bouquet?

shellsworth, 19 March, 2012 at 09:44 Posted on Planning 0 43

Hello ladies!

It dawned on my last night that I don't want to throw my bouquet so I'll either be throwing a BM's or some table decorations Smiley smile

But What are you doing with your bouquet? Ideally I would like to keep it - maybe get it dried? Does anyone know how this can be done?

S xx

I am keeping as it is silk - not doing the throwing thing!

I'm throwing my sisters and keeping mine. They are both silk but I'm pretty sure my sister won't have the sentimental attachment to it. I think hers will be a smaller version of mine, so unless people are making notes about the day, I don't think anyone will notice that it wasn't my 'actual' bouquet.

We are putting it on Mr Fs grandmas grave the following day before we go on honeymoon. Lots of people say thats a waste of £60 or whatever but to me, itl be a waste leaving it in water for the 2weeks we are then away that evening so makes sense.

I did think about getting it preserved but I looked at a couple of web-sites and all the flowers seemed half-dead and didn't have the same beautiful look that fresh flowers do. I can't imagine wanting to put half-dead flowers up on display at home.

If there was a better company or another option though I'd look into it.

Otherwise I'll probably just give it to my mum.

I think I'll throw mine. It will go to waste either way. I don't have any real interest in drying it but my mother may do in which case she can snatch it back off whoever catches it!

I'm getting a free "toss bouquet" with my flowers for this exact reason! It will be a smaller version of my own bouquet. And I'll be keeping my bouquet as it's artificial.

I'm removing a few flower heads to be preserved within a paperweight, then I will be throwing it ?

I saw this advertised somewhere ages ago but forgot to save the details. Would you mind sharing where you'll be getting this done as it's something I'd like to look into.

    ?

The company I am using is Always Blooms, and the cost is £65. They are based just outside Glasgow, but I 'think' they somehowmanage to take orders UK wide.

I'm going to get mine preserved and put in a display box. Daren't throw it as it will be quite heavy.

Don't think we are going to do the bouquet toss bit - mine would be too heavy I think and not a good shape for throwing. One of my BMs is having a pomander styl;e bouquet so could throw hers like a hammer toss! but not sure she would like that!

Am intrigued about ways of preserving the flowers, but have read some horror stories about drying services and they will always look like dried flowers.... I may give it to my mum to take home and give some of the table centres to other people and just get the TOG to take some arty shots fo the flowers that we could hang on the wall. My mum is craft so could ask her to press some of the flowers for me too.

Me too! Got the giggles now ?

Liking the paperweight idea. Not sure if I'm generous enough to throw my entire bouquet.

I don't think it's a waste of £60 to put it on a family grave - I did that when I was BM a few years ago as the wedding was in Ireland and we have a family plot in the next village.

None of my family are buried anywhere near where we are getting married though so I will give it to my mum to have until it dies and will ask her to press a few of the flowers for me to keep. I'm going to ask my florist to make a mini bouquet for me to throw.

I lost my mum 6 years ago and unfortunately she wasn't around when I met my H2B. I am taking mine to put on her grave the day after as that is the only way I will feel that I have included her in the wedding in some way. I admit I wouldn't normally spend that amount on flowers for the grave but they will only die whilst i am away if I take them home. Like the paperweight idea though - might look into keeping a few flowers for this.

I threw mine and an unmarried friend who has also been with her partner for about 12 years caught it. His face was a picture! Originally i was going to keep it and it was a split second decision to throw it. I was glad i did as i quite liked the atmosphere and tradition of it.

I do also think the sentiment of placing it on a loved ones grave is very special.

Ditto! I think I'll do it also but I am sooooo digging Mellow Yellow's idea of throwing a paperweight creating a paperweight.

I'm putting mines on my granny's grave. We were very close, she died 7 years ago and I still miss her very badly. It's another way of incorporating her into our wedding day. We'll go to cymetery the next day and leave it there, I would rather she have it than throw it through the air and have people fighting over it haha x

I always thought I would throw mine... but now I'm thinking of making it myself I would want to keep it. I'm thinking it will go in a vase on the bookshelf after the wedding.. Maybe I'll throw a BM bouquet, or just skip that particular tradition- especially seeing as there will be very few singletons at the wedding.

I like the idea of leaving it on a loved one's grave but my gran was cremated so I'm not sure what I'll do.

I wasn't going to throw it because I used to feel awkward being asked to go up to try catch the bouquet but a couple of my friends have said they are desperate to catch it so I might just do it to laugh at them fighting over it.

I put mine on my Nanas grave the day after the wedding. My sistefr had hers dried and pressed along with the flowers she had in her hair and they are in frames on her wall and still look lovely (she married in 1992.)
