What are you getting the men in your life for Christmas?

Purple Pixie, 14 November, 2008 at 13:28 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 21

I'm stuck for my dad, my OH's step-dad, my OH's sister's partner and my OH! I know what I'm getting OH for his main present but need ideas for a few smaller bits.

I'm not so much after suggestions (as they're very hard to describe people ?) but I thought I might get some inspiration from you if that's ok?

?

What are you getting your H for Christmas?

I'm not really going to be much help I'm afraid. It's H's birthday next week and I've bought him a remote control helicopter, a chill pillow (can't remember the real name but it's supposed to stop you sweating in bed and aide restful sleep), tickets to Cadburys World and Xbox and PSP stuff. Oh, and Cold Play and Oasis CDs.

This won't help you at all but we do secret santa with a £25 budget.

My husband is buying for my dad and has bought him a signed Beth Chapman picture. (My dad is in love with Beth....well her boobs actually) ?

I'm buying for my BIL and he's getting a PES coach / cheat book, the new Killers album and a box of Fererro Rocher.

My husband is being bought for by my BIL, and I've given a list of: Flavoured cooking oils, a Mezzaluna, DVDs, CDs, and a key finder if there is such a thing. he is forever losing keys.

I've bought my 15year old brother some Nike trainers from JD Sports.

    Think that's it.

God, I wish we could do this! Although I'm not sure it'll work with four people who have always bought a ridiculous amount of presents. I was going to try and tame it this year and asked my mum for some Murder, She Wrote DVDs but she's gone and bought every single one and asked me for a sat nav. <sigh>

H is probably going to get a pencil for his Christmas present. ?

(sorry, that was a bit of a rant)

Oh, and KB3, there is such a thing as a key finder. You attach a key fob to the keys and whistle when you loose your keys - it whistles back.

Clare, my sister and I put our foot down after years of spending a fortune on our mother and getting £10 worth of crap from Primark in return. I know you don't give to receive blah, blah, blah, but this is the woman who gave me a £20 cheque for my 21st birthday. She even wrote it out in front of me. Nice eh! So, first we said no present buying for adults but then we missed opening something ? So now it's £25 budget secret santa.

MrKB and I have even set a £50 limit on each other this year. We really are trying to cut back.

Thanks for the tip on the key finder.

Not sure I'm much inspiration either but here you go:

Dad - gadget freak! Bought him an MP4 player last year - just a cheap one as he likes getting things to work rather than using them IYSWIM. I think we might buy him a digital photo frame this year.

Brother. Ah, um, no idea. SIL has suggested a subscription to National Geographic or a night in a B&B (!). Budget is £10 so I was thinking more along the lines of book, DVD, CD, etc.

    H. A bottle of whisky (if someone can suggest Islay, peaty, TCP malts and where to get them, I would be grateful), I was thinking of a monthly subscription to Hotel Chocolat, maybe some gardening stuff - chill related if possible.

Uncle. Vouchers for a dog training school. Has a dog which he wants to be a gun dog but he can't even get it to bring a ball back (it brings back apples......)

Grandad (and Grandma). Hamper of food stuff from M&S.

We're on a budget christmas and me and H are spending £60 on each other and that's it.

So far he's got a jumper and an iron maiden t-shirt. I also want to get him The Dark Knight on DVD when that comes out and maybe some nice chocolate and face cream.

We tend to get other men in the family, whiskey or some other form of Alcohol, an item of clothing, my grandad is into WW2 so something related to that.

My husband quite likes Laphroig, although I'm sure I've spelled that wrong. You can usually get it in the supermarket.

I've bought lots of "small" things for my H.

From Iwantoneofthose.com I got him a set of digital scales (for weighing luggage and bags), an Eco button for his computer (tells you how much energy you save when you switch to standby), a USB "humping dog" (does exactly what it says on the tin!) and something else that I can't remember!! LOL!!

From Firebox.com I got him a packet of TopTurds (I think that's what they're called)

He's also got two boxes of chocolates from Hotel Chocolat and a Gap top.

I haven't finished yet - I want to buy him a few more bits but I'm struggling with my budget so we'll have to see!

My H wants burstbuckers for his guitar. Have no idea what they are but sounds extremely dull! All I know is that they are around £80 each and he needs two of them.

I caught my H eyeing up The Joshua Tree (Remastered CD & DVD Box set) when we were in HMV earlier this year, so that will be his main gift. I'll probably also get some nice wine and chocs for him.

My Dad has said he would like a model car (any) from the local model shop. When I asked which one he said, ahh, just describe me to the owner - he knows. Erm ok then Dad, hope it doesn't cost more than £25 though!

My brother, who's always skint will get money.

I bought my husband a chillow pillow about 3 years ago for Christmas, and he reckons it is the best present he ever got. He is the sort of person who flips his pillow over to feel the cold side on his face. He doesn't tend to use it in Winter, but now finds it is the only way he can get to sleep in the summer. In fact, having borrowed it a couple of times, I really want one too!

Kegsey, Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Lagavulin are wonderfully pungent if you're looking for that strong iodine and smoky characteristic. Other Islay malts are Bowmore, Caol Ia, Bruichladdich and Bunnahabhain - they're a little lighter. Oddbins is your best bet - tell them what you are looking for and they'll recommend something and might even let you taste some too! They're also online if you don't have one nearby.
