What are you getting your Mothers/Mother-in-laws for Xmas?

Little Madam, 3 November, 2011 at 09:26 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

As per the title.

Really struggling with MIL and my stepmom, and i'm hoping that picking your brains will help.

Toiletories are out this year - as are clothes but will consider most other options. Wanting to spend up to £50 on each.

I taking mum away for a night to a swanky hotel suite, a la carte dinner then some christmas shopping in Dec. Also got her a migilo extender for her necklace

Maybe not those exact wordings but you get the idea. I always buy a few knick knacky things like that so If someone unexpected buys us or invites us to house gathering etc Ive something to take.

I'm not much help to you I'm afraid, future MIL is getting a super special surprise this year, we really wanted to get a portrait painted of my late FIL (well, would have been FIL) for her which is costing rather more than the usual £50.

My mum will probably be getting jewellery - I've ran out of inspiration too!

Have a look at flowerjewellery.com, got a lovely necklace for Sis out of there, and planning one for future SIL as well.

MIL i think we are getting her a new living room chandelier. Although yet to look for one so will see how that pans out ?

Mum is easy, she loves makeup, toiletries, clothes vouchers.

Step mum is a bit harder as i dont know the ins and outs of what she likes. At a guess it will be perfume or something of the sort.

Looking into clubbing together with my Sister and getting my Mum a Kindle as she loves reading and will be handy to take on her holidays.

Interesting thread as I am a mum of grown ups and also a MIL twice over.

Wonder what my lot will get me?

(Usually it's something along the handbag/jewellery/books route)

    Not a clue as yet!

My mother is the kind of person that if she wants something she will just go out and get it which sometimes limits my options, however we know each other inside out so anything I get she will love - she got a reed diffuser and exotic tea bags last year!

MIL never spends money on herself and gets all her clothes from the charity shop so a bit of jewellery or some nice new clothes always goes down well!

I struggle with this every year, she has everything and if she wants something she'll just go out and buy it - at the same time she would be happy with anything she is appreciative of everything. Every year she tells us not to buy her anything and save our money bless her. I might ger her theatre tickets or tickets for the Hippodrome or Symphony Hall.

My mum fancied a dressing gown in M&S the other week, so might get her that. Will sometimes club together with my sister to get something better.

For MIL, I think I'll get her a nice big overnight/travel bag, in readiness for coming out to Oz for our wedding. Last time I went on a plane with her, she had a horrible old flight bag.

Probably not a very helpful answer, but as I'm crap at present buying, every November my Mum writes a list with maybe 5 or so items on it and I choose something from the list, this way mum gets something she actually likes/wants but it's still a bit of a surprise. No idea what to get for MIL, she's been a PITA most of the year and I really don't like her so I don't want to spend heaps on her. Probably an amazon voucher or something.

We've got PIL tickets to the Strictly tour - SIL and me are going with them, woo hoo!

Will also get some posh soap and a couple of DVDs

Got my Mum so far some books, kings speech dvd and will get her some make up. I usually give her a voucher too or some money so she can buy some clothes as I would be rubbish at picking for her (and she would hate this!)

I'm also keeping my eyes peeled for theatre tickets for me and her, I like 'outings' as gifts - stretches it out past Christmas and something lovely to do together!
