Just a few more we're guilty of:

Pageboys- Best mate's son loves OH & me, when we let him carry ring cushion from one end our lounge to H2B he RAN towards him!

Canon- I think it depends on the version, I'm having the Mozart & Pachabel version which I think makes the world of difference, have a listen here

Roping family/other guests in- All my family have parts in the ceremony (Dad is giving me away and looking after our certificate, Mum is MOB and witness, FFIL is a witness & my brother is chief bridesman and doing readings. Mum is also doing cake but here's the thing, they offered, I did not tell them they had to do it!)

Handmade stuff- I've been creative all my life and spent 2 years making bits and pieces for our wedding. I don't care if it's not perfect, it saves money and it makes it personal

Vintage stuff - it's dreamy and romantic, what's not to like?!

What's canon? (the geek in me says it when something is a fact from fictional genre or a war weapon) as for vintage, I find it too girly and I've never been a fan of that style. Always been a modern pop art and graphic artist fan! It's not offensive just everywhere I look lately.

Yikes ! We're having quite a few from the dislike list :-)

    Plain wedding dress

    cheapest venue we could afford

    probably not enough wine

cupcakes instead of a wedding cake

    Butterfly shaped place cards

    organza table runners

    artificial flowers

but hey, it's close friends and close family and they know our situation so I'm sure everyone will have a good time regardless !

    - Sit down formal dinner - the venue insist

    - Pay bar

    - Speeches

    - Fake flowers

    - Lots of bridesmaids - four adult, four littl'uns

    - More children, many of whom will stay for the evening as they are all from out of town

    - Surprise first dance

    - Flip flop basket - no they aren't a great look but neither is barefoot. The first casualty I ever looked after as a first aider was a drunk girl who removed her heels and stepped on a pint pot her friend had dropped. Lay on the floor in fer miniskirt while I elevated and dressed the wound was not a very dignified look either.

    - Handmade things

    - Fairy cakes

    - Chicken as a main meal

    - No canapés with welcome drinks

Coloured dress - mine was blue and black.

Fake flowers - they were latex and I wanted something I could keep forever.

Balloons/Buffet - we had a short RO ceremony with 8 guests, meal in little restaurant then a big party at night so did balloons (foil) and a buffet.

    Matching suits

    Black bridesmaids dresses

BBQ, so had to queue up.

    Long bridesmaid dress

    Tiara

Groom matched the ushers, best man. Thinking people wouldn't know who he was is quite frankly ridiculous. If you don't know that, you shouldn't be at the wedding.

    Gift list.

    We are:

    • Not regular church goers but having a church service (for reasons I won't explain)
    • Having chicken for one option (not sure this is a MASSIVE problem?!)
    • Having Pimms and Ale welcome drink - not champagne
    • "You may now kiss the Bride"

I am sure there are hundreds more. The best thing about these threads is that it is so great to see everyone's weddings are so different!

    I had 1 Corinthians 13 as a reading. I love it.

Matching groom + Best Man + fathers (though groom did have a different waistcoat, tie, pocket square and buttonhole). In tails.

    Formal sit down dinner.

    With long tables, not round.

    A Rolls Royce.

Purple, though not exactly Cadbury purple.

    Fruit cake.

    Speeches

    A pay bar.

"Summer of 69." Best song ever. Fact.

A cake covered in (sugar) flowers

But it was still awesome. ?

HaHa All of it pretty much! Pink, matching suits, tails, children, speeches before the meal (they may be long) colour on my dress, birdcages, chair covers and sashes, a definite colour scheme of a few colours that pretty much match. Far too many bridesmaids, Some gentle rock music (true rockers will not consider it rock, but my mum will- think along the lines of Biffy Clyro) a totally unrehearsed first dance- Oh how the list could go on!

We're having quite a few...but then, I don't think that anyone could have a proper wedding with none of those things on it!!!

    We're having:

An ivory strapless dress with untoned arms...?

Fake flowers (although I needed to check whether they were real/fake when I ordered them as they are so realistic!)

    Long bridesmaid dress

    Purple ties for the groomsmen

I'll have a glitter (not crystals) heel on my shoes

Walking in to Canon in D (I LOVE IT)

We'll probably have the Corinthians reading

We're having a religious blessing although we don't go to church...but we do believe in God, hence the religious blessing of our civil marriage

    Speeches before the meal

Sit down meal (5 courses so it's a long one!)

    Late wedding

    No disco...

We had matchy-matchy on most things as I am ultra organised with slight OCD tendancies, not a free-for-all casual type and everything has its place.

Semi-formal sit down dinner (does afternoon tea count?)

Fake flowers (because I wanted them all matching and natural sunflowers apparently don't always do that)

    Speeches

However the only pink to be seen was in the spectrum of our evening reception rainbow lighting.

Formal sit-down dinner (again, who doesn't like 3 courses of food)

    matchy-matchy suits

Canon in D (just love it so)

    speeches

    long BM dresses

BMs all with same hair and make-up

    Love these kind of threads!

I think we've got quite a lot! But it works for us...

Church service (though we do both go regularly)

    Corinthians reading

Pachabel's canon (or as OH refers to it 'Everton's CUp Final song' - I'd never noticed before that the Farm's Altogether Now is based on this)

Children (only the 7 in the bridal party and technically we've not called them pageboys but groomsmen cos 5 pageboys would be silly I think?!)

Lots of bridesmaids/groomsmen (best mate, 3 sisters, 2 nieces - and the above little groomsmen with BM and 2 grown up GM)

Little bit matchy matchy suits (tails but not top hats) OH has a different colour but the others are the same

BMs likely to have the same hairstyle or a version of the same basic style

Long BM dresses (in a bold colour)

I've a strapless dress and untoned arms

    sit down meal

    speeches

    flip flop basket

    no canapes (not a £7 a head for 3!)

    pay bar

I would have loved some of these but found some crystal covered ones instead and then I'll be wearing pump in the evening, not converse but I'm sure someone would hate them anyway!! There is almost a year until the wedding though so you never know I may fit in some more hated shoes ?

We're getting married and having the reception in a hotel.

    Ivory dress.

Short bridesmaid dresses. (probably with more blingy shoes)

    Sit down meal

    Favours - mostly edible

    Men in grey

    Children

Something other than champagne as welcome drink, only 2 glasses of wine with meal plus toast drink and a pay bar. Although about a third of our guests don't drink so their allocation will be drunk by the others! And we will be having soft drink alternatives to all alcoholic drinks offered.

    Handmade things

    Speeches, including mine.

And probably the worst - karaoke! Not for the whole evening but a couple of short sessions, there's some fairly complex reasons why we're having it even though I know that it's not a popular choice. TBH if it was purely my day there's no way I would have it but it's not purely my day!

I'm sure that we'll add more as time goes on and I'm sure there will be people at the wedding thinking 'why on earth did they do/have that?' but the answer will be because we like it and we wanted to.
