What are you naming your tables?

Sarah-Jayne x, 20 January, 2011 at 20:36 Posted on Planning 0 37

Just wondered how many of you are naming or numbering your tables? If naming, what sort of theme are you going for? Personally in the future I've always thought I would do mine as our favourite subtitled films.

We are thinking of going for our favourite restaurants or favourite wines. Since most of our socialising is eating out we thought it maybe the way to go. We didn't realise we were such big red wine lovers till our first four engagement presents were all related to it!!

Ours are just one letter per table, which spell out our surname. Top table we have Mr & Mrs in freestanding letters.

My OH's best man had this at his wedding last October! His now wife walked down the aisle to 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'! The grooms rowdier friends were sat on a table called 'The Flying Monkeys'. I'm pretty sure that was a small (and very funny) dig!

But in answer to the original post we are naming our tables after our pets!

We're having names. Can't decide at the moment whether to name each table after 1 of my horses (I have enought horses!) or to follow my theme of pink roses with the table names. The roses would probably be more classy but the horse names more fun.

Deary me we have had such debates on this one and have narrowed it down to 3! We are only having 5 tables and the head table, so:

    1. The great lakes of Canada/North America. OH's mum and little bro live there.

    2. Famous towers - We have been up the Spinnaker (and we live in Portsmouth), the CN (another Canada link), Eiffel, etc

    3. As we have a blue colour scheme, different shades of blue.

I think we're naming our tables after films with numbers in the title - one flew over the cuckoo's nest, 29 days later, three men and a baby, ...I think you get the picture!

We're naming ours after places along Brighton seafront as that's where we're getting married.

The top table will be 'Brighton' one end and 'Hove, actually' the other end!

I've just looked up the names of 'blue' roses and they seem like a stunning idea for table names:

Blue Moon, Blueberry Hill, Blue Magic, Blushing Blue & Blue Crystal.

The Wizard of Oz is exactly what we're looking at going with. It will either be that or the name of musicals. I'm also walking down the aisle to Somewhere over the Rainbow!

We named ours after surnames which run through both sides of our families. I lost my Grandma last year a few months before the wedding so one of the tables was named after her maiden name. Same with H's Grandma too.

The top table was H's (and my now) surname.

Where possible we tried to sit someone with the same surname as the table. It went down really well and was a talking point.
