What are you paying for, for your bridesmaid(s)?

Kentish Gal, 22 January, 2013 at 15:55 Posted on Planning 0 53

Interested to know whether the bride and groom are paying for:

dress/shoes/flowers/hair/hair accessories/make-up/nails/tan/bridesmaid gifts/anything else

I have seen both extremes but am curious as to whether there's a 'general consensus'.

Thanks!

We are paying for dresses, shoes, flowers, jewellery, hair and make up.

I'm also getting them gifts, the jewellery will be their main gift but getting other things to go with.

I want them to have their hair and accessories as they see fit. Plus the budget is tight.

    dress/shoes/flowers/hair/hair accessories/make-up/nails/tan/bridesmaid gifts/anything else

Anything else = jewellery, handbags, hotel rooms.

    Let's see...quick calculation...about £450 per BM. We had four.

I am intrigued by this also. I thought we would pay for my bridesmaids' hair and makeup but my Mum said she thought it was normal for them to pay for themselves. I guess it comes down to your budget, I don't think you could ask them to have their hair and/or makeup done professionally and then make them pay for it?

My bridesmaids are paying for everything themselves. This was their decision. I am paying for the flowers though.

I am paying for my flower girls dress and accessories as I don't think I can send a 6 year old down the mines to make her own money!

We're paying for their dresses, shoes, hair and make-up, nails, jewellery, dressing gowns for getting ready on the morning and thank you gifts for them. I never quite understand when people state that the dress is their 'gift' to the bridesmaid. No it's not. It's a outfit for your wedding!

    We paid for -

    Dress

    Hair

    Make-up

    Gift

    Hotel acomodation

I only had one BM and that was my older sister. We would have paid for the shoes but the dress was very expensive so she offered to pay for her own. The same with nails - swanky salon so she offered to pay for her own (i paid for mine and mums)

    Dress

    Shoes

Wrap thing as it was going to be chilly

    Flowers (inc hair flower)

    Jewellery & a separate gift

    Hair & Makeup

Also paid for my sister's hotel for the night before and night of the wedding as we'd asked her & her husband to stay in a particular hotel with us, and we paid for a meal for all of the bridal party the night before.

My view is, if you expect them to wear a particular thing or have their hair a certain way, you should pay.

I have been a BM twice as an adult. On both occasions the bride bought my dress, shoes and flowers and some jewellery as a gift that I wore on the day. One of the brides paid for my hair and make-up the other didn't. There are no hard and fast rules, it depends on your budget I think.

Paying for flowers, gifts, accessories and dress though I have asked for a little bit towards the dress - the dresses are£60. One of my Bm my cousin in fact has now pulled out last night she told me she couldn't afford it. Gutted and disappointed and not sure where it's come from.Smiley sad

    We're paying for:

1 x adult bridesmaid: dress, shoes, flowers, gift

2 x flowergirls: dress, shoes, flowers, gift

I really am not fussed about how they have their hair, plus my MoH will either be heavily pregnant or will have just given birth so I will just be grateful if she turns up!

    We paid for:-

Dresses, alterations, hair, make-up, necklace and earring sets, hair pieces and gift during speeches.

Do people really count *flowers* - surely that's a given? Surely noone has actually made their BMs pay for flowers?

I intentionally chose a colour of dress my maids would have use for in their personal lives. I wanted the girls to wear a dress that flattered their figure specifically (matchy-match doesn't always allow for that) and two needed to be a shade they would get future use from. I chose black. I wanted a basic style; full length, sweetheart neckline, strapless ideally but as they could pick their own gown I asked if they might buy their own dress or wear one they might already have in their wardrobe. Because I chose black, it didn't matter entirely if the dresses didn't match as the shade is close enough. What I ended up with was a bunch of maids looking gorgeous, unique and confident in what they were wearing. The dresses flattered their figures, and the colour meant they could wear the dress again. I purchased the embellishments;their accessories, fascinators, fans, etc.

Maid of honour has Pj's and a matching gown as she's sharing my hotel room the night before.

    Everything.

I couldn't imagine it any other way, we had 4 and were on a modest budget but still managed it easily. There were no spray tans or nails though! Grim.

As a BM I have never been asked to pay for my own dress/shoes etc. I would find it a bit cheeky.

We are paying for dress and alterations, jewellery, flowers (obv), and a pashmina in case it's cold. They are sorting their own shoes- happy for them to wear ones they already own and doing their own hair and make- up.

I am only having my hair done professionally because my mum is paying for it, and am doing my own make-up.

I have 5 bridesmaids I think they will end up costing me about £300 each.

I think it's down to the budget & circumstances.

I have 8 adult bridesmaids, a junior & a flower girl. I'm obviously paying for everything for the junior & flower girl. For the adults I am paying for the material for their dresses but they are paying for them to be made. They are also buying their own shoes. This is their choice as all my friends know that the only way I could have all of them is if they helped with the cost. All of them said that they would spend the same on an outfit anyway so it's no different. This is why I love them & they are my bridesmaids.

I'm also paying for flower clips for their hair, flowers, hair & make up & a thank you gift.

    I have two BMs.

Dresses were £32 each, jewellery £10 each, shoes (budgeted) £70 each, flowers £45 each, hair £30 each, make up £45 each, will probably spend about £40 on gifts for them.

About £550 on both of them roughly.

I would love to pay for everything but unfortunately I just don't have the budget ☹️. They each have dress, flowers and gifts. The dresses are so long the shoes won't be seen so they're wearing ones they already have and they're paying for their hair to be done also
