What are you walking down the aisle to?

AliLindsey, 18 September, 2008 at 18:10 Posted on Planning 0 34

I was just trying to remember all the classical music I listened to as a kid. So far my favourite is definitely Nimrod from the Enigma Variations by Elgar. Found it on YouTube and was in bits listening to it! Actually maybe that's not such a great idea then!!

Anyway - on a sillier note:

Was also vaguely thinking about ode to joy......

I walked down the aisle to 'Your Hand In Mine' by Explosions in the Sky. Not a classical piece of music, but instrumental and beautiful. We walked back out to 'Baby, I Love You' by The Ramones.

We were having Canon in D when we were having a harpist, but when we werent I was undecided what it would sound like on the organ, but then the Vicar convinced us, that as its quite a short aisle, its not a good choice as it doesnt have chance to get going!!

So we have a meeting with the organist on Sunday to make a decision!

After months of trying to decide on music, we have finally decided on canon d major remix style for the guests to walk in to, arrival of the queen of sheba for me and the bridesamids etc, katherine jenkins quello che faro for the signing of the register and ( completely jers choice) vivaldi four seasons spring to walk out. I wanted something more upbeat and jolly but had to let him have some say lol x

This is the song I am walking down the aisle to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ls7cH3elBc I do like classical music but wanted a song to walk down the aisle to. I have always loved this song and really sums up how I feel about my h2b. We still have to decide on music for signing register, walking back out and for guests arriving, maybe a classical piece there.

I was going to walk down the aisle to Cannon in D but my H2B didnt really like it, so decided against that, I am now walking down the aisle to Shania Twain - From this moment. The words are lovely and H2B loves it.

Walking out is another Shania Twain song - Forever and Always

My H2B loves Shania Twain and I wanted forver and always in my wedding ceremony somewhere, so happy about that.

Not so much down an aisle but rather down some steps, across some boardwalk decking and onto a sandy beach to the theme from 'Much Ado About Nothing'...all 7 minutes of it <goosebumps>.

At the end of the ceremony we're having 'Love Is In The Air' from Strictly ballroom...OH doesn't do dancing so this is a compromise for our first dance, hopefully everyone will enjoy that...speshly me!

We're having a civil cermony in a hotel, so I'm walking into the room to 'It had to be you' by Harry Connick Jnr.

    It's a great tune!

We're using bits of Crown Imperial (Coronation March) by William Walton for ours (different bits for going in and coming out!)

I would love to go out to the theme tune to Its A Knockout (if anyone is old enough to remember this!) - would be hilarious!

If you are getting married in a hotel, what are you walking in to, I don't have a particularly long aisle - like about 1 minute at most really. Did you starting playing the music first for a little while?

Also if its a song, how do you stop it without cutting into the lyrics (if that makes sense?)

    xx

I'm getting married in a stately home. There's not a very long aisle. Haven't timed the walk though!

I'm going to start mine before they open the doors I think. Then they'll have to fade it out. As to how to cut a song. My advice would be to edit it so that it's the right length if you see what I mean. IE if you like the chorus of a song, maybe start with the intro, then cut straight into the chorus then fade it out?

Does that make any sense? I'm an editor for a tv channel, so I know how to do this. Not sure how you'd do it at home though.....

It is beautiful isn't it? It was actually H's choice; I was a bit stuck for ideas and he suggested it. When I heard it, I knew it was the right one. H said as soon as it started in the room he got goosebumps.

I am walking in to the introduction of sweet child of mine by guns and roses! It is a fantastic upbeat guitar intro, the aisle is only short so should be perfect, and will hopefully have me walking in grinning with my head held high rather than feeling a complete wreck lol

Ah, there's some gorgeous songs you're all having. Have been showing my friend at work some of your ideas as she is getting hitched next Friday in Reg Office and still hasn't decided on music!

I sing in a gospel choir who are going to sing a song written especially for our wedding gigs/for the brides entrance. Having 'A little love' and 'This Day' for register signing and then 'Love is the Message' on the way out - it incorporates 'all you need is love' too! Can't wait although I just know it'll make me cry more than I already will be!

    Anyone else having a choir?

We're having a civil ceremony in a hotel, I think I will be walking down the aisle to All my life by America, and back out to I guess I'll always love you by the Isley Brothers. Thought of a couple of songs to sign the register to Always and Forever by Kenny Rogers, That's All by Rod Stewart with maybe Unchained Meloday. Not sure if it's 2 or 3 songs for that bit.

We had a humanist ceremony and I walked down the 'aisle' to 'Suitcase Calling' by the Polyphonic Spree.

We also had 'For Lovers' by Wolfman; 'This Modern Love' by Bloc Party during the ceremony and 'Surface To Air' By the Chemical Brothers as our exit song.

I would love to come into JS Bach's Wachet Auf, arranged by M.Hotton (local composer and used to be my choir master and I just love the arrangement that he wrote) but I don't know if I can get a copy of the music or not, but I'm also torn by Handel's Queen of Sheba as again I just love it as a piece but it also has sentimental connections to my gran too.

But H2B has never heard M.Hotton's arrangement of Wachet Auf and he thinks Queen of Sheba is too fast. We also both like Stanley's and Purcell's Trumpet Tune/Voluntary so at the moment I'm thinking about having Arrival of the Queen of Sheba for when I arrive, then while that is playing I'll be composing myself before I start walking down and then have either Stanley's or Purcell's Trumpet Tune/Voluntary to actually come into. I have a feeling the organist might find me a bit different to the brides he's used to dealing with [] (I used to date an organist and began to learn to play, it's still on my list of things to do in the future as I'd still love to learn ?

We're having O Mio Babbino Caro for me and BMs walking down the aisle -coz although the music is haunting and beautiful, it's actually a comic song about a woman begging her father to let her marry her lover or she'll throw herself in the Arno- then we are having Queen of Sheba for the signing of the register coz it'll keep people awake ? and then we are walking back down the aisle to the traditional wedding march.

i have managed to convince h2b to have this as our first dance! yay!

not sure what i am walking in to, maybe a rachmaninov piece that i have loved for years (rhapsody on a theme of paganini if you're interested), or maybe canon in d, but am also considering 'all you need is love' by the beatles. walking out to a piper playing something that my h2b will decide - he is scottish, and we are getting married in kent, and he wants there to be something scottish at the wedding.
