What are your flowergirls carrying?

Knees, 12 March, 2012 at 11:13 Posted on Planning 0 7

We're having two flowergirls at our home service aged 6 and almost 3. I always thought flowergirls scattered petals down the aisle before you walked down, but Mr Knees thinks that's cheesy!

The littlest one is quite shy around strangers, so it may end up that she walks down the aisle with us (we're walking down together as we'll already be married!) holding her hands, so she won't have any hands free. I do want the older one to hold something though - a wand? a pomander?

Also, what have you got for their hair?

Mine will be two years old, and I didn't want to 'burden' her with a job of scattering petals in case she either managed to scatter all of them before we arrived for the ceremony, bottled it and just wanted to sit with her mum, or cried if the wind blew them away etc etc. I am sure your 6 year old will relish the idea though. Instead of scattering them down the aisle, perhaps she could hand them out as confetti somehow?

My little flowergirl has a wand, with ribbons and beads on and some bells that tinkle.

She has only seen it once but carried it round the house (and poked the cat with it) for a whole 45 minutes, which is a really long time for her! So I'm sure she'll be happy to carry that around, wave it madly, whack people with it etc.

Oh and her hair is a tad thin on the ground - she still has baby hair! She has a butterfly clip from Monsoon, but whether she will have enough hair for it to clip to is another matter!

I've got white hairbands for mine - aged 9, 5 and 3. They're covered with ribbon and a little white flower and look very pretty. My aunt who is doing the flowers (and is grandmother to two of them) would like them to carry little mini bouquets made from artificial flowers to match the adult bridesmaids but I quite like the petal scattering idea so am trying to persuade her that this would be nice too!

    Thanks both.

Duckybum - where did you get the wand from?

I find the petals thing a bit cheesy too, plus my flowergirl is bright as a button and no way would I get away with giving her petals when we all have flowers!!!

Decided upon a little basket with flowers in to match the BM's, consulted with her Mum about what she thought she would cope with best as I was considering a tiny posy as well. Advantage of a basket is she gets something to keep and play with after (she loves bags!!)

With the hair, it's so fine that a lot of things slip out, plus she's only a little girl so we can't rely on any style staying put!! Will just let her mum do it and then not worry if it's all loose in the end!!

Forgot to say, she will be 5.

eBay. This is the link to one of the seller's current listings (I got mine a while ago, I could swear it was £2 cheaper):

Teddies are quite popular and easy for the little ones to hold plus they tend to take more care of them than flowers Smiley winking Other ideas are wands or a single flower - some photos of these for you:-

They have something very similar here:

I have found my flowergirl pomander here which I am really pleased about. The owner is also going to make a hair clip for her using the same paper flowers.
