What are your plans after the wedding?

Weather Girl, 16 September, 2009 at 13:19 Posted on Planning 0 23

Just another thread to help liven things up really!

I'm looking forward to having nothing 'planned' - it'll be nice to come home from work and do absolutely nothing if don't want to! We'll probably book a holiday away for sometime next year but we want to try and save up a bit and make up for what we've spent on the wedding. We also want to start looking for a bigger home, we're struggling for space with just two of us so we want to be prepared for when we do start trying for a family!

How about you?

    Hi

Im trying to enjoy the planning as much as possible as I only really intend to get married once ? so whenever I get stressed I keep telling myself that! But once the wedding is done and dusted, we are hopefully moving from Stoke-on-Trent to Worcester (where my family & friends live and where we are getting married) so will be looking for a bigger house and a new car lol (my poor old clio is getting mashed up - I keep bumping into parked objects like cars, posts etc!!)

Well if we dont do it before the Wedding we will be moving house then me thinks after the wedding the pitter patter of tiny feet may be upon us then i need to do some serious career jumping as im hanging out in my current job as its ideal to fit in with having a young family and the security of and benefits ofbeing employed, however im getting stale and need a new challenge, so may look at starting my start my own business once ive had kids it all depends on the Construction industry at the time and the need for my services.

    K xx

I think a well earned rest will start our married life, and then house on the market, we were going to try and move before the wedding but I think its too much at once! Things are a little tight in our place and OH is very broody so I guess we will look for a 'family' home and then go from there!

Kerryanneellis, your very lucky to have that opportunity! I'd love to, I think I may be able to do something similar maybe not my own company but maybe freelance kinda thing, but would need to do a few more courses first!

Hopefully I'll finish my degree in October which means I can start doning the management training and maybe start another degree in Business management after the wedding in May. The company has offered to put me through any training/courses I want to do but I want to wait until after the wedding so I can enjoy the last few months of planning ?

We both want kids but want to have a few hols and work up the career ladder first!! ?

Hi Moya thanks i am lucky and feel extremely privaledged but it is part and parcel of the career im in its very lonely and isolating so guess theres swings and roundabouts but the plus point it give me lots of freedom and scope for the future....ive been doing some freelance work in the eves and on the weekends and its a great half way house and way of earning a bit extra

I plan to have a year working my ass off to save up before I plan teacher training avoiding getting pregnant! Then hopefully moving house (we currently live about my inlaws pub in a flat, a very nice flat in central Cambridge, but still a flat!) so we can have a place of our own, not just the pub. I'm not 100% sure i want to do my teacher training anymore, i was all up for it until this past month! If not i'll get a job (what can I do with an English degree?) and save up before babies.

Oooh, we have it all planned out, stick the flat on the market when we get back from honeymoon, and buy a victorian cottage in hertfordshire, I will look for a job around that area and start making our bubbas Eva-Mae, Jude and another undecided one Smiley laugh oh, and get a little dog too!

Mrs Spink to be, you can do loads with an English degree ? Personally I've gone for marketing which I never saw coming, but it's events marketing in particular. Admittedly I don't use a great deal of what I studied during my degree but there are elements of creativity you need, e.g. adverts, email campaigns, copy writing, etc, that good English really helps for! You could also consider PR, but it's really hard to get into - I tried! So you'll prob need a bit of work experience for your CV to stand out. Then obviously there's journalism or publishing - again though, hard to get into, so maybe have a look for a few placements or something? I know that's easier said than done though when you have a wedding to pay for and have to have money to live on at the same time!

For me and OH after the wedding, I daresay we will probably enjoy a few months of splurging money-wise, as we will not have been able to do that for ages! ? Then depending on the property market and our financial situation we hope to start looking to sell the flat and move to a 2 or 3 bedroom house nearer to our family and friends, so ideally Sidcup or Bexley (I know Dartford is not that far awayjust don't feel at home here!).

I will also look at starting to develop my career a bit further, as by then I'll have been in my job 2 years and I will either be looking for some sort of promotion or pay-rise, as I have been hitting my targets and hopefully will continue to do so, and have also learnt a lot since I've been here already. If I can't develop my current role I may look to move on as I'll have had 2 years of solid experience in a good corporate firm and will probably be able to find something quite a bit better paid and probably a little bit more senior.

Babies are a possibility, but they are a long way off for us. That won't be happening for a looooong time! ?

Thanks, I really need to think about what to do. I'm not really into journalism (i'm not that great at creative writing - i have little imagination or too much! lol!) I'm thinking office based, i know it's pretty boring, but i like to be boring and organised! I've worked for several companies in Cambridge over the summer, not exactly what i want to be doing but a lot of different offices. x

Well once we're back from the mini moon, we'll be finishing doing up the house so we can sell it and move further out of London and get a house with a garden so I can get my puppy.

Then next April we're going on actual honeymoon... as we need to save up!

I intend to eat and drink a far bit too... especially as H2B is taking me to The Fat Duck to expereince Heston Blume-wotisits tasting menu for my birthday- can't wait!!
