What are your "something borrowed" and "something blue"?

Jumbly Girl, 22 November, 2009 at 21:30 Posted on Planning 0 26

Are any of you lovely ladies following tradition/superstition and having these things? If so, what are they going to be? Much as I hate to admit any superstition, I'm thinking about following this one ? and I need some inspiration....

And where on earth can I find a silver sixpence/substitute?

There was a hitched sixpence that was doing the rounds but don't know what happened to that. I was hoping to borrow my sisters necklace that she wore as bridesmaid for my mum which my mum then borrowed in her 2nd ceremony in Cyprus as she forgot hers but my sister doesn't seem very keen to lend me hers so I'll have to rethink. I think the blue thing is the hardest bit to find, so I'll keep watch on this thread to see what ideas other brides to be offer.

I'm wearing something borrowed and something blue- but not because of tradition, it's just coincidence!

I'm wearing my sister's pearl earrings and my grandmothers brooch which has some blue crystals in it.

I have a blue charm for my garter and my borrowed is my shoes from my sister. She said they were comfy enough to last her the day on her wedding day so that's good enough for me! new is obviously the dress / veil etc. It's the old that I'm having problems with...

I will no doubt get a sixpence for my shoe and would be happy to pass it on after my wedding (August 10)

now this is a good question as I'm also struggling with my something old. My dress is an ex-sample so would this count as "old"????? I didn't really think so but it will be the oldest thing I will be wearing on the day.

Oh I don't know Tinkerbelle - I'm confused now. My ER will also be over 2 1/2 years old on the day so maybe that can be classed as old???

I had kinda pictured something that had, say, been passed through the family for the "old" option but maybe thats not right????

I don't know eaxctly how long but I suppose as long as its been worn/used before the wedding and isn't specifically bought for it. Our family doesn't really have heirlooms so I'm hoping something of mine that I haven't worn/used in awhile will do.

My old is the watch my parents gave me for my 18th so it will be 11...I think 'old' is not new. My mum wore an old pair of tights!!! I have a sixpence from the year my OH was born.

My new was a numbe rof things - dress, earrings etc

My old was OH's nan's engagement ring

Blue was a bead from a bracelet that my nieces made for me

and my borrowed was the one of the hitched Sixpences - there are 2 doing the rounds, I think Tahdah may have had the other one so not sure if she sent it on - there was a list on here somewhere. I think my reserve one didn't have any takers until April so if someone needs to borrow it from me then PM me your address and I'll send it!

I'm not planning to but..... why would it not be ok to wear a borrowed garter? It's just a thing to go round you leg isnt it? [insert dumb icon here]

Old: Hopefully will be having my nans wedding ring (snapped in two when she injured her finger a few months ago] mended to make a new ring.

    New: Does my dress count?

    Borrowed: I am borrowing MIL's underskirt/hoopy thing

Blue: Do BM dresses count or do I actually have to be wearing it???

Hmmm. It sounds like we're all a bit confused about what counts for this and what counts for that.... Maybe that means it can be open to interpretation?

    Does anyone really know? ?

I have done quite a few of these for brides to be: They are little swarovski crystal charms in blue, which can be attached to your garter or even the bouquet.

Feel free to get in touch if I can help at all
