Wedding websites?

I have just received an invitation from a good friend, which noted her wedding website as a point of reference. My immediate thought was "No! A wedding website?? Surely they are far too cool for this??"

I had a look. And the cringey "We met doing this.....and we are really in love....and these are people we like who are our bridesmaids and ushers, Gary 'insert adjective which suggests drunken antics will be aplenty here' Jones etc etc' has done nothing to dispel my initial response....

Deep down I know they are a good idea. They make life easier, they are economical, they are fun to put together (I'd guess...). But I couldn't, I wouldn't....no, definitely not!

No bloomin' way!!! Our friends and family know us but they dont need (or want!) To know our life history together!! Also, I quite like that the invite is the "teaser" for the day, a hint on the colours & theme....if you have a glorious technicolor website it gives too much away!!

I'm planning on having a website as well as sending out invitations through the post. It just makes it easier for guests to find information regarding accomodations, rsvsp online and view photographs after the wedding. Saying that I am a Web Designer so if I I had to use an templated site or had to pay somebody to build a website for me, I probably wouldn't bother with it.

Don't see a problem with them, they wouldn't bother me.

I've done one with information, maps etc for guests. That way no one can say i didn't give them important information. Now i'm paranoid people think its cr@p and cheesy though ?

Oh no DWC, don't let me worry you! I think I still have a bit of the 'too cool to get excited' teenager in me! I suppose my main aim is to appear nonchalant and aloof...yep, I think the problem is definitely with me and not wedding websites!

We have one. No cheesy info on there though, just the details of the day. A few people have said how useful they've found it. Hope no-one secretly hates it! It saved printing rsvps or added info sheets, plus allows us to update it as and when needed. I don't think a website is inherently good or bad - just like an invitation can be lovely or awful, depending on how it's done and personal tastes.

It's just the modern way of doing things... Some are cheesy but that's no different to the cheesy wedding invite you would receive in the post. We have one and I definitely don't "do" cheese!!

I will probably have one...but only because I work for an agency and my lovely colleagues will design it for me for nada.

    On a slightly different note.

Setting up my wedding as an event on Facebook, however, is taking the powers of the internet a bit too far IMO.

    Me too!

Not that any of our guests have actually bothered looking at it. Even my own mum only looked today because she was at mine and I had it up on the laptop editing some stuff.

    Hi,

I looked at one today and it went back years before the couple met. It even mentioned previous relationships - weird!!!

No one really wants to know all your little lovey moments. Why do people have to share everything.

On the other hand of you think it would make planning easier then go for it - just keep it simple and classy not cheesey.

I think they are probably useful for factual information, accomodation gift lists etc, but not the cheesy stuff

Yep I've started mine! Fairly cheesy, but I'm just that sort of gal lol. Have had a bit of fun writing the different bits about me and OH but don't plan on doing one for all of the lead roles as I feel that is taking it all a bit far!

Should prove useful for hotel booking and stuff though Smiley laugh

I've got one, but it's because I couldn't be bothered to do extra leaflets with directions and where to stay etc. in with the invites. All that information is on the website instead.

H2b is doing ours but we're not a sappy couple so it will be need to know information for the day. Also I don't think we're opening ours until alot closer to the time.

Gurzle - I have NEVER been too cool to get excited even as a teenager - that is half the fun - getting excited. Why would you want people to think you are nonchalant and aloof, are they good things to be? - no wonder I was never in the "cool" kids crowd ?

I have one. I am a programmer, and could create one with my eyes shut, but I just don't have the time, so I've used one of the standard templated ones. Yes, it's cheesy, but that's half the fun. For us, it will be invaluable for sorting things like car pools from the airport, and because there's no large hotels nearby for guests, we will be using it to organise the weekend rental of some large country houses for them to stay in.

I used zankyou for my wedding. No cheesy rubbish onthere and it was free. They had an awesome guest list to table plan function too. I got my RSVPs back via there and I got them all back really quickly. I had maps and other details on there too. Would strongly recommend it!
