What are your top must do/see's in London?

Fenella Fudge, 21 March, 2009 at 18:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Probably been done millions of times before so apologies but just wondered if anyone can recommend their favourite things to do or see.

We're going for 3 days in April. Nights are all organised; Ac/dc Thursday night and Kettners and Wicked on the Friday night so just got the days to fill.

Fancied doing less touristy things although tempted by the Eye. Last time we went I wanted to find the church featured in the Da Vinci Code. We found it but the back entrance which was gated but this very kind man let us in and we ended up walking through the gardens/offices of the Barristers area (I think) which was really good.

I fancy hunting down that thing ? in the wall at Cannon St which Griff Rhys Jones showed on his tv program but what else is there? Any hidden gems?

TIA

The Eye is fab, day or night. I recently went with some European work colleagues and their enthusiasm reignited mine in London! My other favourite great tourist traps: Tower of London, river boat cruise, wandering around Covent Garden, London Aquarium and Hyde Park.

I love just wandering around the South Bank area - the book stalls, street performers, free exhibits and music plus nice cafe's and bars.

The Kings Road / Sloane Street is nice for shopping as it is always quite chilled out and has shops for every budget.

There's a photography museum just off Regent Street which has interesting exhibits and the chocolate cafe in Harrods (4th floor I think) is FAB if you like hot chocolate.

Don't know about 'hidden' gems as I don't live in London so only know it from monthly visits to the PIL.

Thanks for the replies, will keep a note of all the places and visit the ones we can.

Chocolate Cafe sounds like my type of place! I made H buy Krispy Kremes from there last time we were down as we didnt get them in Cheshire....then discovered them in Tescos.

    Hmmmm krispy kreme.

London Eye, and the Duck Tour is good too, but very popular - you need to book in advance.

The London Stone - I know it very well - I used to work near there at LIFFE. It's near to the bronze trader statue (stone that is) near a pub, funny enough called the London Stone.

Farm St Church in Mayfair is very pretty.

Interesting buildings along from the royal courts.

I love walking around the City at weekends & never tire of finding new things.

London walks are always good fun. I've enjoyed all of the ones I've been on, and you can always peel off if you'd rather not continue

MrKJX and I went to the Design Museum (https://designmuseum.org/) which we both loved. Nice cafe as well.
