What Bank do you bank with and how do you find them?

FIONATS73, 31 August, 2010 at 14:15 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 14

Really as the title says, I am slowly changing to the Natwest bank as we bank with them with work and its much easier as I am there every day with the cheques for work.

I did bank with the Halifax and our joint account and h's account is still there. But its in a different town, and it means I have to use a full dinner hour if anything needs to be resolved with a 20 minute drive there and then the que and the same back so never any time for lunch.

We still have a few d/d's to change so I am transfering a value of money to our joint account which appears the same day from the natwest. But my h's transfers a standing order to our account which just has the bills going from it. Which seems to always go on the slow train and has still not appeared today when it went from h's account on Friday. We have asked them if they can do the same thing as natwest same day transfer nope no chance (because no bank can offer it). Now me and h have had to transfer everything in to our bills account for tomorrow incase it still does not show and ensure we dont incur charges.

The annoying thing is though is that cheque guarantee cards are obsolite as of next June and cheques a few years later so all banks are supposed to providing more options to help. But the halifax seem to be putting up brick walls. We have now cancelled the standing order, due to the fact if h transfer his money its shows straight away, how that works I dont know. When the standing order won't

Sorry for the moan Halifax have really annoyed me again. Be glad when finally rid

I'm with Halifax and I'm finding them a pain in the bum but for a different reason. I currently have a Visa Electron card and have been trying to apply for a "proper" card for years and everytime I get turned down! I have no bad credit, I am on the electoral roll, I am bringing money in, I am 20 and they keep saying that I am refused. My brother who is 18 applied for one. He is not on the electoral roll, has never had credit (which was their first reason for turning me down so I took out a catalogue to build up my credit and they still aren't happy.) and yet they gave him a card straight away! Their reasoning for giving him a "proper" card was because he manages his bills perfectly and has never gone overdrawn.........YOU CAN'T GO OVERDRAWN ON AN ELECTRON! He also doesn't have any bills to pay!! So in short I've given up with them, not sure what I'm doing wrong Smiley sad Sorry for hikacking your thread Smiley sad

I'm with the Halifax and have never had a problem they've been very good with the whole house moving saga too to be honest which is a relief.

i know i'm in the minority though with that opinion.

Halifax and they annoy me, got my account hacked last year, I only noticed when I went to draw money out when out shopping, went into Halifax while I was there and told them there was a discrepancy with my account to be told they couldn't deal with it there as it wasn't my branch. I asked them to double check the account balance, had my card and ID and he said he couldn't do that either. Took me an hour and half to get from where I was to my own branch and the cheeky feckers that hacked me had taken the rest while I was on my journey. The original Halifax I went in wouldn't put a stop on my card either.

Me and H bank with LLoyds TSB and they are fab with us. The bank staff know H better than they know me as he has banked with them longer, but nothing is ever too much trouble for them and they are always helpful and friendly whenever we go into the branch.

I used to bank with Yorkshire Bank until 9 years ago, but they decided to become awkward when I got married, so I closed my current account and savings account and had my name put on H's current account at the Lloyds and haven't looked back.

I am glad I am not the only who thinks that Halifax are crap. When I had my overdraft they still let me spend even when over it and charged 35 pound each transaction and then kept putting up my overdraft limit.

The natwest have been great if the money is not there they wont let me have it. But since being the natwest, I find much easier to manage I think thats why I prefer it as I am there everyday so if I need money I don't draw out 10 pound I can draw out from the casher 5 pound. Have really cut back on so much since being with them because I know where I am.

I've banked with a few different ones over the years, including bank of scotland very briefly before they merged with halifax and thought they were useless then! I have also worked for clydesdale and rbs, so had staff accounts but my main account since I was 16 and wanted a visa electron card so switched from rbs, has been with lloydstsb and I really rate them. Their internet and phone banking are great and easy to use and the staff in my local branch are lovely, h took my card to work the other week leaving me no money and I only realised on my way to town, I popped in to ask if I could still pay a bill without card/id and they said that would be fine and let me withdraw £10 too ?

I'm with Santander or abbey as I still call them. Have been since I was little. I've no complaints other than when I did my mortgage they sent my offer to a random solicitor rather than the one we had stipulated which resulted in many calls and a delay of a week on our completion

Thanks ladies its interesting to see what different experiences we have of a bank.

Nott Lass we have our mortgage with stander and I just sent off copy of my marriage certificate as they would not do it in branch.

Don't worry Bec, we wont flame you lol its just the Halifax. Most of the staff are great but unfortunately its the systems in place which are the annoying thing
