What browser do you you use and why? HRML

Rache, 12 July, 2008 at 15:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

Boring software question.

I'm just downloaded Safari for use on my PC when doing quidco transactions, and I rather like the look of it. Pathetically I'm only familiar with microsoft but I'm a quick learner, so am currently using IE. It's not immediately obvious how the favourites etc all work but I'm sure I'll get there in time. I wondered whether I should change over. Or use Firefox, for that matter.

I am obviously a very keen internetter - I use my favourites and RSS feed all the time for looking at blogs etc. I do most of my shopping online.

What do you use and why? Should I switch over and learn how to use Safari?

I normally use IE because I'm lazy, but when on Hs laptop use firefox which I find a v similar style to IE. It's more secure too (viruses are designed to "attack" IE, not other browsers)

Usually i use internet explorer, but have just got a macbook (did I mention that?) and so am getting used to safari. I've never got along with firefox. I'm not sure why. When i started my life on the internet we used netscape, as that was all there was. Then we moved to IE, and I hated it. I hated having favourites instead of bookmarks. Then i started using linux, and used mozilla on that, but a lot of the time things didn't work that did work in IE. As soon as IE had tabbed browsing I was a happy bunny.

I do use the google toolbar a lot, and you can't use that with Safari. I'm currently trying to decide if I can cope without it.

Good point. I do too, but in the version of Safari I've just downloaded there's a search box which appears to use Google, although I do use autoflll quite a lot

I always used netscape to start and then changed to firefox once it was available. IE has tabbed browsing now, which was one of the main advantages of firefox, but as already mentioned, firefox tends to be more secure than IE and also if you get greasemonkey you can get nice little scripts that do neat things. There are lots of great scripts for Flickr in particular.

    I use firefox & opera.

Opera isn't great as mamy websites gp funny with it, but it's great if you're a bit low on RAM/processing power as it caches more effectively.

Firefox is really secure & you can download different 'skins' so you can choose the look. You can also use google toolbar & there are loads on add ons, ie tab, means you can right click & switch rendering engine & you can work in IE (sometimes very useful) & adblock which means i don#t see many adds & this makes pages quicker to load.

Firefox here. I have a few addons (Easy Gestures for one!) that mean that I feel really odd on a machine with IE. I've always felt odd using IE to download FF on a new PC though!

Thanks everyone. I've downloaded Firefox and I like it. I've managed to downloiad a thingummy which lets firefox bookmarks talk to del.ici.ous which is cool, and I've saved all my RSS feeds onto Google Reader, which is so much more user friendly.

    Thanks all.

For the Purist Firefox has a lot to offer. The designers of this search engine are mainly Compuserve people.....for those that have been around the web for a while, Compuserve was like a Rolls Royce in the early develpment years of the internet...

I use Firefox as well. I only use IE when there is a website which doesn't work with Firefox.

My favourite feature is having the websites I use most on their own bar so it's nice and easy to click rather than using bookmarks.

This is my favorite thing as well and the main reason I use firefox, it seems to be more stable than safari (on a mac) I don't mind safari but generally use firefox.

Hitched can be a bit funny in safari as well, I find that I often lose the formatting tools on forums.

I think I must have disabled this feature while fiddling about with the settings. Any ideas?
