What can I do now!?!?

MrsHD2015, 9 January, 2014 at 11:16 Posted on Planning 0 8

It's still almost 18 months until our wedding (20.06.2015) and I am soooo frustrated! I really want to start some more planning (church and reception venue are booked but that's all!). I feel like there's nothing I can do right now except read magazines and be on here! It's way too early to buy anything and I really want to go and try on some dresses but I just feel it's way too early still ☹️

To make matters worse someone in our friendship group got engaged at Xmas and is planning to marry before us so I get to watch her wedding planning on FB but can't do much of my own ☹️

Why can't it be summer now? lol

Quite honestly I don't think there's anything to stop you booking/buying other things now - unless you're likely to drastically change your mind about things between now and then. I'd say you should start looking for a photographer though as they tend to get booked up very far in advance so that could be a project for the next little while.

Certainly not to early to be trying on dresses etc. And I would start booking meetings with photographers.

I am just worried if I start trying dresses now I will fall in love with one and buy it but then in 6 months time I might change my mind or see something different I want lol! My dad is a photographer for a big company so one of his colleagues is doing our photos. Also a friend is making the cake so I can't think what else to be sorting out now ☹️

Definitely not to early to book your main suppliers like TOG and DJ/band.

It's unlikely that you'll go your dress if you find it early. The only way that'll happen is if you pick something you're unsure about. Many brides have dress wobbles but that's usually because they don't see their dress for so long and start to doubt themselves. Perfectly normal.

We are not getting married until 2016 and when i was looking aound I saw a dress that I fell in love with and i'm going to try it on next week. I know what i'm like, if I love it I will never forgive myself ifI don't try it on. I don't mind getting a dress this early as it's one less thing to worry about and it will be paid for plenty of time in advance. As for any other organising, when I have been speaking to friends about it, one them said every month they would go and buy a few bits and put them away so it didnt feel like they had to find a big chunk of money in one go, (buying 5 vases a time is easier than buying 50). I know come the summer when we can book the registrar and venue I will be organising and starting to but things. I'm hoping if we do all this early on we may (hopefully) have some time to relax the closer to the wedding we get.

Its definately not too early to book anything!!!

I've booked and ordered everything apart from my dress. Got engaged in April and wedding in end of April 2015. Honestly I found that poeple I was enquiring to book things with already had booking as far ahead as October 2015. (and I got good discounts from some suppliers for being so far ahead)

If you know what the two of you want, then I'd start planning! Smiley smile

I know the feeling of watching other people plan, 4 of our friendship group have got engaged since us and all planning on marrying this summer. Watching the girls go dress shopping is the hardest Smiley sad

It'll come round before you know. We had nearly two years to kill between getting engaged and the wedding. We're now down to 7 months today! I booked most things with 18 months to go. I was in between jobs and had time on my hands. I booked the TOG at this stage and also got my pick of MUA and Hair lady. Defo have a look at dresses to get ideas - I knew very quickly what I wanted so I didn't mind buying it so early. All the fun stuff is starting now like finalising details of things but that also brings with it a lot of stress! Don't worry, you are still having a wedding, doesn't matter how far away it seems.

    Hi,

I am getting married the month before you and I have booked everything already, yes that includes the dress (it's hanging in M&FIL 3rd bedroom), we've even picked the suits we're hiring, I've got my invitations already, and I've picked what favours we'll be having and the cake & flowers etc.

As long as you're not likely to change you mind I'd say go for it! Everyone said to me I'll be bored in the run up to the wedding as I've booked everything, but that's not true, all I@ve done is secure them for our date I haven't told anyone what it is exactly that I want yet so that'll be fun too.

Do what you think is right not what other people tell you (my dad moaned at me that I was doing it all too soon - like he'd even know anything about weddings, he did nothing on either of his!) if you feel you want to go try dresses on do it, if you find 'the one' get it! I still see dresses etc in all the magazines but I am so pleased with what I've bought that I don't wobble at all - I hope you'd feel like that too if you get it now.

The planning process is all part of the fun IMO and you're bound to be so excited about it all so do what you want and make sure you enjoy it! Wait if that's what you want to do, or be an organise freak like me and book everything! lol

Hope my ramblings have helped a bit Smiley atonished

After the venue, generally the second most important thing is the wedding photographer. Start looking around and book soon. I already have bookings for 2015, and I've had to turn down some enquiries for summer 2014 dates - don't forget there's not many of them, well, 12 peak summer Saturdays, of which yours is one of them!

I am getting married in March 2015, and I've just started to talk to other photographers, and I'll be looking to book someone over the next couple of months.

My other half is already looking at favours, invitations, other little details, and has already gone to look at dresses, so there's lots you can do!
