What can I do (payrise related)?

MrsTracey, 14 October, 2008 at 09:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 3

My payrise was due in August, and yet, it's still pending. This isn't just me, but lots of other people who had their appraisals around this time.

I work for a global company, and the issue I've been told is that this is the first time that the rises have been sorted via the route they are now using.

Obviously, due to the current situation, my outgoings are going up and up, and yet my pay hasn't increased, although this has been promised.

I have chased my HR rep a couple of times, but haven't really had a satisfactory response, or a date of when the rise will take effect from.

I've never had this problem before ever during my career.

I know I'm lucky in this climate to even have a job, but I really need to know one way or another what's happening, which isn't forthcoming.

What else can I do?

Thanks.

Have you actually had it in writing that you are getting a rise?

Companies are not obliged to dish out payrises every year - unfortunately! Historically I have always received a rise on 1st October but have not heard anything - I'm bracing myself for not receiving one this year which is a bummer but nothing I can do about it.

Just hang in there - I think it's all you can do.

Not a lot, I don't think. Sounds like they are having problems with their new system and no one knows what is happening. I think, if I were you, I'd just try and concentrate on living below the income you currently have.

H works for an organisation which takes ages to sort out payrises - 6 months at times. They are always backdated though. Hope that its the same for you.

Thanks for your responses. The HR rep says the payrise will be backdated. Looks like I'll just have to carry on waiting.

I just find it incredible from a global company - I could understand it from a small company.

I've found the opposite actually - that's it's often harder to organise and instigate things in a larger company than a smaller one.

(mind you, as an Estate Agent currently living in on a 45% drop in earnings I'm not holding out for much of a payrise any time soon!).
